Leveraging nearly four decades of excellence in psychotherapy, Ms. Huning has earned distinction as a highly skilled, innovative advanced-practice psychologist in private practice. She is the owner of Nature's Gate, a new integrative therapy practice based in Minneapolis, MN. Starting with extensive experience with children and adolescents, her work over the past two decades shifted to work with mostly adults. She has integrated leading advancements in trauma therapy along the way, specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy for the past 10 years. She is also trained in ketamine-assisted therapy, which provides lasting and effective results with treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, addictions and post-traumatic stress disorder. She has been a contracting psychologist with Lyn-Lake Psychotherapy and Wellness, Inc. since 2022. In 2023, she founded Nature's Gate LLC, where she offers advanced-practice complex trauma therapy and coaching integrating DBT principles and skills, somatic trauma interventions, and ecotherapy including trauma-informed Qigong Therapeutic Exercise.

Ms. Huning began her career as a physician's associate at The Wilson Center in 1985 and became the senior therapist for the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center in 1987. She served as senior inpatient psychotherapist for Laughlin Pavilion in 1991 and was a private life coach from 1996 to 1999. Following this time, she lent her expertise as the shelter services coordinator for the domestic violence safe-house Verde Valley Sanctuary in 1999 and resumed coaching until 2003. She then was a psychologist with Southwest Behavioral and Health Services, Inc. until becoming the director of health and wellness services for TriVita, Inc. in 2004.

Ms. Huning continued her career as clinical supervisor of a Family and Children's Center Day Treatment Program in 2007 and subsequently was the employee worksite wellness coordinator for Trane in 2008. From 2009-2011, while engaged in the study of Applied Ecopsychology with the Institute for Global Education, she also served as program coordinator. At the same time, she was the program coordinator for Amos, Inc. Circles of Support, an inmate-reentry program. In 2012, she served as a clinical supervisor of Riverfront Counseling where she developed and led a Dialectical Behavior Therapy intensive outpatient program. In 2015, Nature-Centered Counseling & Education joined the private practice group Highland Meadows Counseling Center, Inc. She worked as a staff psychologist for Morningsong Therapy Center Inc. in 2021 before bringing her practice to Lyn-Lakes Psychotherapy and Wellness, Inc.

Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Huning earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Earlham College in 1981. She then attained a Master of Arts in psychodynamic psychotherapy from Antioch University in 1985. Well-qualified in her field, is a Minnesota licensed psychologist. She also holds a certification in Prolonged Exposure Therapy and is nationally certified as a dialectical behavior therapist by the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification.

Among her professional accomplishments, Ms. Huning is proud to have been awarded the E.B. White Prize for Excellence in Psychology by Earlham College in 1981. She is also a valued member of the American Psychological Association. Also dedicated to civil advocacy, she has served as a sanctuary caretaker for Rooster Redemption, serves on the board of the Anna Lake Animal Sanctuary, and volunteers with several animal advocacy organizations. She supports and engages in indigenous-led humanitarian projects and is a volunteer with the food sovereignty initiative, Minneapolis Edible Boulevards.

In the coming years, Ms. Huning intends to continue her work as a psychotherapist, coach and educator, with plans to develop on-demand self-help integrative trauma recovery programs, nature-based retreats and continuing education programs for clinicians teaching her unique combination of advanced-practice nature-centered approaches.
