John Frederick Derr, RPh, FASCP, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

John Frederick Derr is recognized for his expertise as a senior strategy consultant with the LORAN Consulting Group.



He is a skilled healthcare executive with more than six decades of excellence in managing skilled nursing, assisted living, mental health and hospice facilities.

    LIVINGSTON, MT, September 11, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- John Frederick Derr, RPh, FASCP, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. A skilled healthcare executive with more than six decades of excellence in managing skilled nursing, assisted living, mental health and hospice facilities, Mr. Derr has earned distinction as a senior strategy consultant for the LORAN Consulting Group. Since 2016, he has focused his efforts on providing assistance for healthcare professionals, specializing in the regulatory domain and strategic clinical technology that is capable of helping post-acute care providers with novel care delivery and payment models.

Outside of his consulting role, Mr. Derr has served as the president and chief executive officer for his own company, JD and Associates Enterprises, Inc. since 1998. He is also the founder of the LTPAC Health IT Collaborative, which he established in 2005 to represent all long term post-acute care that is still in existence today and as a trustee of the certification for health information technology. In a similar vein, he started the Committee on Information Technology under the National Association for the Support of Long-Term Care.

Prior to starting his private career, Mr. Derr served honorably as a captain in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1963. He then was part of the United States Naval Reserve from 1964 until his retirement in 1989, serving as a reserve commanding officer of the Destroyer and lending his expertise as a chairman of the strategic planning committee of the Naval Reserve Association in 1996. In recognition of his dedication to his country, he was awarded a Meritorious Service Medal in 1989.

Before his present role with the LORAN Consulting Group, Mr. Derr began his career as a licensed pharmacist in 1959 and was a projects manager, hospital group product manager and director of the hospital market for E.R. Squibb and Sons in 1966. Following this time, he was the vice president of marketing for Searle Diagnostics in 1974 and served as the vice president for the Imagina marketing products group there in 1977. He continued his career in vice presidential roles for Iselin, National Medical Enterprises and Chatsworth until becoming the president and chief executive officer of the Westlake Group in 1986 and serving as the general manager for Kinamed, Inc. in 1989.

Following this period, Mr. Derr functioned as the president and chief executive officer of Metalaoer Technicians in 1991 and served in a similar capacity for Innovative Health Concepts, Inc. in 1993 and for JD and Associates in 1996. He then led J.B. Laughrey, Inc. in 1997 as the chief operating officer until taking a role as the vice president of marketing for Sun Healthcare Systems, Inc. in 1998. In 2002, he was the executive vice president for the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living for four years and became the senior vice president, chief information officer and chief technology officer for Golden Living in 2007. While there, he managed more than 130 information technology personnel and under his leadership, Golden Living was the first long-term post-acute care provider to be a member of a health information exchange. He also served as the interim chief information officer for Santé Healthcare in 2020 and was the chief clinical technology advisor for eCare21, Inc. in 2021.

Among his many professional accomplishments, Mr. Derr participated in a press conference for President Bush's Executive Memorandum to digitized healthcare, which Sec. Thompson asked him to coordinate regarding long-term care for nursing homes, assisted living facilities and homecare information technology in 2004. His advocacy efforts collaborating with representatives in long-term post-acute care led to the software development to transition to electronic health records, which is now standard in healthcare. Additionally, he was admitted as a fellow to the American Society of Consultant Pharmacists.

Added to his executive roles, Mr. Derr is a short story author about Premarin and the draft horses. He has also published "The Devil Tree" with iUniverse, a division of Barnes and Nobel, in 2006. Likewise a talented vocalist, he is a singer and first tenor with the Waltershoo Group and the Wagner Chorale on the West Coast, having sung at Carnegie Hall, and the Bozeman Symphony Orchestra. He has sung worldwide with the Purdue Varsity Glee Club at the Portland Rose Festival, Bob Hope in Anchorage, Alaska in 1956, and "The Ed Sullivan Show."

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Derr attended the Officer Candidate School in 1960 and earned a Bachelor of Science in pharmacy from Purdue University in 1958. He was awarded Purdue University Distinguished Alumnus in 2005. Well-qualified in his field, he is a licensed pharmacist since 1959 and holds an executive certificate in business, management, marketing and related support services from the Kelley School of Business of Indiana University.

Within the coming years, Mr. Derr intends to continue his work and intends to publish books he has written about a hero in healthcare with natural capabilities. His other book regards the history of long-term post-acute care, which he developed in collaboration with a Columbia University professor and a professional from the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
