Leveraging more than two decades of excellence in taxes, quality education and event planning, Ms. Nilssen has earned distinction as the deputy executive director of the National Society of Accountants. Since 2022, she has focused her efforts on handling the staff meetings for the company while attending board and executive committee meetings. She ensures operations are running smoothly, including managing their banking, audits, tax returns and compliance. Added to these responsibilities, she works on the strategic side of the business and is presently writing an operations manual to help guarantee a business continuity plan for the organization.

Additionally, she is a valued member of the Professional Convention Management Association, the National Association of Tax Professionals, the National Society of Tax Professionals and the American Society of Association Executives.
Before her present leadership role, Ms. Nilssen began her career as a program associate with the Council on Foreign Relations in 1989 and became a senior technical editor for KPMG LLP in 1999. In 1992, she was also key to writing an article on the Arms Sales to Yugoslavia with ArmsFAX during her tenure at the Council for a Livable World in Washington, D.C. Following this time, she worked in meetings and communications for the Institute of Makers of Explosives from 2003 until 2018, serving as the associate director of education strategy for the National Association of Enrolled Agents in 2019 for two years.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Nilssen earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the University of New Hampshire and studied journalism at the Moscow State University in 1992. Following these achievements, she attained a Master of Arts in international affairs with a focus on Russia and central Eurasia from American University in 1993.
Eminently qualified in her field, Ms. Nilssen is a certified meeting professional fellow with the Events Industry Council and a certified meetings manager with Meeting Professional International. She also is a certified meeting planner with the Convention Industry Council, a certified association executive with the American Association for Association Executives and holds a global certification in meeting management from Meeting Professionals International, among several other credentials.
Within the coming years, Ms. Nilssen intends to continue her work with non-profit organizations as well as spending more time teaching taxes or association management to others. She is proud to have planned many successful events throughout her career and to have achieved such high levels of success and plans to pass that on to the next generation of professionals.
