Prior to this role, Dr. Amakawa was active as a senior software engineer at Uber Technologies Inc. from 2015 to 2019.
Dr. Amakawa initially began his vocation working as a researcher at the Hitachi Research Laboratory in Japan between 1982 and 1988. Shortly after, he garnered expertise as a staff scientist at Etak Inc., later acquired by Tele Atlas and then TomTom International. Following this post, Dr. Amakawa built a prolific career as principal engineer at deCarta Inc., formerly known as Telcontar, from 2000 until 2015.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Amakawa pursued an education at Kyushu University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1980, followed by a master's degree in energy conversion engineering in 1982. He continued his academic efforts at the University of California, Santa Cruz, earning a Doctor of Philosophy in computer and information sciences in 1994. As a commitment to his field, Dr. Amakawa has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the Association for Computing Machinery Inc. and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.
Among his professional accomplishments, Dr. Amakawa is most proud to have worked on the pathfinding algorithms for vehicle navigation systems. Additionally, he is gratified to have engineered and attained several patents for fuel cells, animation production, and pathfinding. Reflecting on a long career, he attributes much of his success to his flexible thinking in solving problems and diligent work ethic. Looking toward the future, Dr. Amakawa aspires to expand the scope of No More CO2 Inc. and hopes to spend more time with his family.
