Prior to her academic career, she was a senior consultant at Deloitte in Hyderabad, Telangana, India, from 2014 to 2017. Before that tenure, she honed her analytical skills as a rating analyst at CRISIL Ltd in the Mumbai area from 2008 to 2013 and started her professional journey as an analyst at Evalueserve in Gurgaon, India, from 2007 to 2008. Dr. Shekhar's extensive experience in both academia and the financial services industry has established her as an expert in finance and financial modeling.
Dr. Shekhar's educational background is impressive and foundational to her success. She earned a doctorate in finance from Wayne State University in 2023. Her business acumen was further shaped by completing a Master of Business Administration, with a focus on Finance, from Indian School of Business (ISB), Hyderabad in 2014. While at ISB she was selected for a spring exchange term at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, an experience she considers a highlight of her academic journey. Her academic pursuits began with a bachelor's degree in economics from Miranda House at Delhi University in 2007. From a young age she was strongly influenced by the emphasis on education in her family. The support and encouragement from her family, particularly her father, who is a retired professor, played a pivotal role in fostering her passion for education and research.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Dr. Shekhar has made significant contributions to community service efforts. Born in a middle-class family and raised in a small city in India she understood the value of building a just and equitable society from an early age. Her community involvement includes teaching underprivileged children as part of a community program and participating actively in school donation drives. During her time at Deloitte, she volunteered her services for developing job skills among youth—a testament to her commitment to social responsibility.
