Mr. Matschek has practiced architecture for over four decades and with distinction, continuing to expand his network of architects, developers, contractors, and other industry experts, remaining current with emerging trends in design, building materials, construction, and business opportunities. Since 2019 Mr. Matschek has also consulted for MYP Maquetas of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, helping to promote their North American business, having known the owners of the firm professionally for over 20 years. Among his professional accomplishments, and one of his landmark projects, Mr. Matschek was awarded by the American Concrete Institute for his exceptional design of the exposed concrete building structure at the Evergreen Aviation Museum located in McMinnville, Oregon.
Prior to becoming a licensed architect, Mr. Matschek served in the United States Coast Guard Reserve as a petty officer for 10 years, receiving his honorable discharge in 1981. Mr. Matschek became a small boat coxswain after training in the Eastern region and his assignment to Portland, Oregon where he conducted harbor and river patrols from their Maine Safety Office. He subsequently deployed to the central Oregon coast, to carry out safety and rescue patrols on motor life boats. This led to advanced boat handling and search & rescue training in San Franciso which qualified him for service at United States Coast Guard duty station worldwide and as an International Boarding Officer.
Mr. Matschek earned his bachelor's degree in architecture, with a minor in film criticism, from the University of Oregon. He is a registered with the California Architects Board, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards, is a LEED Green Associate, and a member of the American Institute of Architects.
Following graduation, Mr. Matschek practiced in San Diego, becoming licensed in 1981. Moving overseas, Mr. Matschek traveled internationally and based in Singapore and New Zealand until 1996, when he returned to Portland Oregon to as an associate architect for Ankrom Moisan Architects. In 2010 he became a consulting architect for the company until 2011, when he joined MEC Engineering as a construction project coordinator on behalf of AM Technical Solutions Inc. In 2015 Mr. Matschek became a senior project manager for DAY CPM, an Otak Division, followed by a campus facilities architect for Intel Corporation in Oregon and Arizona. In 2023 Mr. Matschek returned to AM Technical Solutions as Senior Architect in their AE Group.
Likewise dedicated to civil advocacy, Mr. Matschek volunteers as a high-performance driving instructor and coach for the Cascade Sports Car Club, he serves as a board member of the Friends of Timberline, is a lifetime member of the Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway and the Eagle Scout Association of America.
Within the coming years, Mr. Matschek intends to retire, as his duties with AMTS are catering to a global clientele. His role will evolve to include the responsibilities of an owner's representative, overseeing project management while leveraging his architectural proficiencies in a wide circle of project size and types.
