ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL, March 04, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Prem N. Mehrotra, founder, president and chief executive officer of General Energy Corporation, was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Chicagoland regional edition of Forbes magazine.

Driven by the desire to make an impact on energy conservation and play a role in the development of turnkey projects, Prem N. Mehrotra spearheaded his career upon immigrating to the United States from his native India in 1970. He joined Sargent & Lundy Engineers, through which he worked on such projects as the LaSalle County Nuclear Station and the Laredo Unit 3 for Central Power & Light.

In 1980, Mr. Mehrotra became the senior vice president of Energy Resources+Planning Inc. He subsequently established General Energy Corporation (GEC), which he founded with the intention of focusing on energy efficiency, environmentally conscious designs and renewable energy generation. Over the years, General Energy Corporation has met and exceeded the needs of countless clients through its collective network of professionals and their superior educational backgrounds, as well as its foundation of trust, integrity, initiative, teamwork, respect and customer-forward approach. GEC's first major project in 1986 was a ComEd pilot program, Religious Buildings Assistance Program. Under this program, ComEd was required to provide energy audits to 105 parishes (up to three buildings per parish) and assist in implementing energy conservation measures. This was quite challenging and was completed within an assigned period of one year.

Mr. Mehrotra also gained valuable expertise in the field as the founder of Grant Park Wind Farm in Kankakee County, Illinois. Through his numerous positions in the industry, he has had the honor of working on a wide range of projects for Argonne National Laboratory, Case Western Reserve University, the Chicago Industrial Rebuild Program, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University, K-12 public schools and hospitals.

Mr. Mehrotra received certification as a geothermal designer from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and is a professional engineer in the states of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and Wisconsin. He maintains alignment with the Association of Energy Engineers and the American Society of Heating and Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers. Outside of his work, Mr. Mehrotra contributes to the Himalayan Institute of Yoga Science and Philosophy. Looking toward the future, he hopes to continue developing energy efficiency engineering projects in renewable and solar energy.

Mr. Mehrotra earned a mechanical engineering degree from Banaras Engineering College in India in 1960. He later achieved a Master in Management in 1976, from Northwestern University's Kellogg School of Management. He also qualified for a number of specialty courses offered by the Association of Energy Engineers and the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

Mr. Mehrotra received the 1984 ASHRAE Energy Award, the Illinois Chapter Energy Design Award and Excellence in Engineering Award in 1991 and 2000, respectively, and a Thomas H. Madigan Special Merit Award from the Madden Mental Center in 1992. Additionally, he earned the 2013 ASHRAE National-Level Technology Award for a Category 1 Commercial Building and a 2019 ComEd Energy Efficiency Program Custom Innovator Award for his work identifying and implementing custom energy savings measures for customers.
