Rev. Dr. Smith is recognized for her contributions to the Episcopal church as a priest who has served and trained as an intentional interim pastor since 1998. Throughout her career, she has been affiliated with churches outside her dioceses in New Jersey, including Missouri, Florida, New York, and Tennessee. Rev. Dr. Smith has also found success as a consultant in transition and congregational development since 2003 and as a member of the General Theological Seminary/Virginia Theological Seminary advisory committee since 2023.

Having recently concluded her commitment to the Interim Ministry Network Inc. in 2023 after 20 years of service, Rev. Dr. Smith was a faculty member of the organization from 2003 to 2023 and served on its board between 2009 and 2015. The organization is dedicated to supporting and training clergy and lay leaders leading during times of transition. Rev. Dr. Smith also worked in other capacities, including as a priest associate at Saint David's Church in Nashville, Tennessee.

Among other notable accomplishments, Rev. Dr. Smith spearheaded the curriculum revision for the Interim Ministry Network's training manual, changing it from a lecture-driven to a learning-driven curriculum that was an experience-focused and case-study-based format. Additionally, Rev. Dr. Smith has contributed to and edited numerous works, including "Transitional Ministry: A Time of Opportunity" via Church Publishing Company in 2009.

Rev. Dr. Smith graduated from Emory University with a Master of Theological Studies and Seabury Western Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. She also garnered a Doctor of Ministry in evangelism from Saint Paul School of Theology. Moreover, Rev. Dr. Smith completed consultant training in transition, search, and congregational development through the Alban Institute and The Center for Congregational Health and became an ordained Episcopal priest.

Rev. Dr. Smith credits her success to finding new and innovative ways to accomplish goals. She has always been able to generate ideas that work for everyone. Rev. Dr. Smith also notes the importance of asking the right questions.
