Dr. Ham has established a distinguished career spanning 25 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where he currently serves as a nuclear engineer and researcher conducting studies on nuclear safeguards on geological repositories. Previously, he was a technical advisor to the National Nuclear Security Administration/Department of Energy between 2020 and 2023, providing expert guidance on nuclear safeguard projects and dealing with nuclear issues and policies with a strong technical focus. Dr. Ham also led various projects from 2017 to 2020, where he demonstrated his leadership capabilities and deep understanding of nuclear non-proliferation and safeguards.

Dr. Ham's career at LLNL began in 2004 when he joined as a research scientist. He also took on the role of associate program leader for nuclear safeguards between 2004 and 2018. His work during this period solidified his reputation as an authority on nuclear-spent fuel management. Before his tenure at LLNL, Dr. Ham contributed significantly to global nuclear safety as a unit head and nuclear systems engineer at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Austria from 1998 to 2004. Aside from his fieldwork, Dr. Ham's expertise was shared internationally as a visiting professor at the University of Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates between 2016 and 2017.

Among Dr. Ham's most notable achievements has been his involvement in the Highly Enriched Uranium (HEU) program, an initiative that significantly reduced nuclear weapons stockpiles through an agreement between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. His role as an inspector for the U.S. government during this program was instrumental in repurposing material from disassembled nuclear weapons for peaceful energy production. As a seasoned researcher, Dr. Ham holds several patents on nuclear fuel security and detection technologies. He has disseminated much of his findings by co-authoring several scholarly articles in Nuclear Technology.

In preparation for his illustrious career, Dr. Ham acquired a bachelor's degree in nuclear science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Doctor of Philosophy in nuclear engineering from North Carolina State University. Dr. Ham's membership in industry-related organizations, such as the Institute of Nuclear Materials Management and the American Nuclear Society, further underscores his commitment to his field.

In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Ham received a Certificate of Appreciation from the NNSA Assistant Deputy Administrator in 2023. his ability to address complex technical problems incrementally has been pivotal to his success, allowing him to solve longstanding issues within various projects.
