PHENIX, VA, February 04, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Phillip E. Miller, MA, CISSP, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Miller became interested in computers at a young age, writing his own software when he was only seven. Pursuing an ambitious career path almost immediately, in 1983, he was dubbed a 'computer whizz kid' by local media for writing software as a fundraiser for his primary school. Mr. Miller went on to create computer programs to allow the school to track grades and attendance. As a teenager, he made software to help a family member manage their independent business. Mr. Miller started his first consulting company in the early 1990s, developing software for various companies in the United Kingdom, including creating the first laboratory information system for DNA fingerprinting and other solutions for microbiology labs.
That early fascination with technology has blossomed into an esteemed career of nearly 30 years, culminating in Mr. Miller and his wife launching Qurple in 2011. Through Qurple, an online security consulting company, he has worked with many organizations, from major Fortune 500 companies to security startups establishing a go-to-market strategy. Mr. Miller provides guidance on how clients can protect against online data breaches and help them recover from attacks. He also assists with coaching, executive leadership, planning, and recruiting for new businesses. In addition to his primary vocation, Mr. Miller is co-owner of the Walnut Kitchen Homestead, a commercial farm specializing in sustainable and organic hay production.
Though he has operated Qurple for over a decade, Mr. Miller has only embraced it as his full-time job in the last year. Before that, he contributed as a vice president and chief information security officer at NetApp. As a principal security adviser at Amazon Web Services from 2019 to 2022, Mr. Miller worked with Fortune 100 companies to aid their safe transition to Amazon's cloud computing technology. He joined Brooks Brothers in 2014 as the director of infrastructure and technical engineering and was later promoted to vice president and chief information security officer. Mr. Miller's earlier roles include director of information technology (IT) security at Payless ShoeSource, IT manager at Sappi Fine Paper North America, and senior consultant at Software Spectrum Inc. He immigrated to the United States in 1995 and started his professional journey by taking on the position of senior automation consultant at Frontier Consulting.
Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Miller sought a strong academic foundation.
Having achieved the highest grade level at a UK comprehensive school, he attended the University of Oxford to obtain a Bachelor of Arts in jurisprudence. Mr. Miller was also awarded a Master of Arts from the same institution. He has further bolstered his credentials with certification in security from Amazon Web Services and as an information systems security professional from the Information Systems Security Certification Consortium. Mr. Miller attributes his success to hard work, good fortune, open-mindedness, and the support of his wife.
Known for his contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Mr. Miller supports many causes outside of his profession that are important to him. An animal lover, he has served as a founding board member of Hoof, Paw and Claw. Mr. Miller contributed as an assistant scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America for more than five years. He and his wife support nonprofit organizations related to preserving American History, including Colonial Williamsburg, Patrick Henry's Red Hill, and the Historic Staunton River Foundation.
As he has looked for ways to bring his insights to a broader audience, Mr. Miller has shifted into writing. His first book, "Hacking Success: How Owners and Officers Should Cultivate Policy for Cybersecurity and Use of Artificial Intelligence," was published through Barnes and Noble Press in 2024. This volume has received praise from readers for providing guidance in navigating the complex world of online security and the new complications from the introduction of artificial intelligence technology.
Beyond his professional life, Mr. Miller is a devoted husband and father to two children. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, visiting national parks, and reading. Looking to the future, Mr. Miller is dedicated to Qurple's growth and success. He hopes to continue the company's consulting work and open it to academic opportunities.
