WOODSTOCK, MD, February 11, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Matthew W. Mellady, JD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Mellady, a distinguished professional in public safety, has dedicated over three decades to his field and currently serves as the deputy director at the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Police and Correctional Training Commissions. In this role, he oversees the correctional training unit, the law enforcement training unit and the leadership development institute while teaching classes on risk management and liability and attending meetings. He is also responsible for the certification and compliance units and provides support for both the Police Training and Standards Commission and the Correctional Training Commission.

Prior to his current position, Mr. Mellady served as an assistant attorney general for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services from 2020 to 2023. During this time, he honed his legal expertise and contributed significantly to public safety initiatives. From 2005 to 2023, he was the president of Etiquette for Kids LLC, where he co-authored "What Do You Say as You Go Through Your Day," a publication aimed at educating children on appropriate etiquette. In 2019, he was a mediator with the United States Department of Justice Mediator Corps, further showcasing his commitment to conflict resolution.

From 2012 to 2019, Mr. Mellady held the position of regional counsel at the United States Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons. His extensive experience in legal matters and public safety has been recognized through his membership in several industry-related organizations, including the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association Inc., the Maryland Correctional Administrators Association, the Maryland Criminal Justice Association, the Maryland Program for Mediator Excellence and the Maryland State Bar Association.

Mr. Mellady's academic background laid a strong foundation for his career achievements. He earned a Juris Doctor from Tulane University Law School in 1994 after completing a Bachelor of Arts in French with a minor in psychology at Wabash College in 1991. His legal acumen is further supported by his Bar admissions to practice law in Maryland, the Maryland Court of Appeals and the Indiana Supreme Court.

Looking back on his achievements thus far, Mr. Mellady attributes his success to his consistent focus, humility and desire to continue acquiring knowledge. He is also immensely grateful to have been mentored by attorney Bill Burlington, who provided invaluable guidance during his tenure at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, as well as Judge James K. Bredar, recently retired United States Marshal for Maryland Johnny Hughes, and executive director Kathleen Gossard, all of whom were vital sources of inspiration and knowledge.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Mellady is actively involved in civic activities as a volunteer mediator for the Maryland District Court since 2009 and as a donor to the American Heart Association.
