WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH, March 13, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Steven J. Galjaardt has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As the global director of environment, health, safety and training at Boart Longyear, which specializes in mining and drilling practices, Mr. Galjaardt has been instrumental in creating and updating tools and capabilities to empower employees to better understand safety fundamentals. These include developing and implementing training packages, updating environmental, health and safety (EHS) standards and investigation guides, and creating a safe work procedure (SWP) library. Additional efforts include tracking emissions in line with environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements, introducing tracking platforms for EHS regulatory requirements such as permits and licenses, and creating security plans to support travel and entry into new countries.

Mr. Galjaardt is a proponent of visible, tangible leadership and believes a positive work culture is essential to maintaining a safe work environment. He recognizes that regular site visits are fundamental to enhancing safety and understanding the focus and improvement points for business. Under his guidance, Boart Longyear achieved its best-ever year in safety in 2024 with a total case incident rate (TCIR) of less than 0.9 with over 12 million hours. This marked a 30% improvement from the previous year and the first TCIR below one in the company's history.

Prior to his current role at Boart Longyear, Mr. Galjaardt served as the company's regional health, safety, environmental and training (HSE&T) manager for Europe, the Middle East and Africa from 2017 to 2023. Before joining Boart Longyear, he was a security risk manager for operations at Lendlease in Sydney, Australia, from 2014 to 2016. His career also includes serving as a planning manager at Compass in the Middle East and Africa from 2011 to 2014.

Mr. Galjaardt's career is deeply rooted in his military service as an officer in the Australian Army from 1989 to 2007. During his tenure, he participated in four overseas operations and is a graduate of both the French War College and the Royal Military College, Duntroon. His accomplished military background laid the foundation for his expertise in risk management and his commitment to reducing workplace incidents.

Mr. Galjaardt's academic achievements include a master's degree in geopolitics and industrial dynamics from Paris-Pantheon-Assas University in France, earned in 2004, and a bachelor's degree in professional studies from the University of New England in Australia, completed in 1997. To augment his knowledge and qualifications, he holds certifications as an Information Systems Security Professional, Certified Ethical Hacker, Certified Safety Professional, and Certified Mine Safety Professional, among others. His passion for acquiring and sharing knowledge has been pivotal to his success.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Galjaardt is actively involved with the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Inc. and the Board of Certified Safety Professionals. His dedication to excellence has been recognized with several accolades throughout his career, including a Boart Longyear Special Recognition award in 2025, the President's Award for Excellence in Business Performance from Boart Longyear in 2021 and a United Nations Commendation in 2000.

Outside of his professional life, Mr. Galjaardt is devoted to civic activities such as volunteering for tree-planting initiatives in Africa and contributing to various civil charities. Born in Tasmania, he enjoys sailing, running, walking and camping with his wife and their three children.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Galjaardt aims to train more workers in proper safety practices with a particular focus on developing countries. He remains dedicated to enhancing safety culture globally by improving understanding of ergonomics and raising awareness of safety fundamentals.
