Mr. Scharen launched his business, Glacier Bear Construction LLC, in 2023, reflecting years of dedication to his craft. With an initial outlay of only $7,000, the company has since become a self-sustaining enterprise, and Mr. Scharen cites its success as his most notable career accomplishment. Many construction companies struggle in their early years, often finding themselves in the red for the first three years due to the demanding workload and challenging conditions, which makes the early success of Glacier Bear all the more impressive. In addition to running his business, Mr. Scharen has served as the lead mechanic for the Alaska Housing Finance Corporation in Juneau since 2024 and has been self-employed as a finish carpenter for several years. Mr. Scharen began crafting and building when he was only 6 years old and has been passionate about it ever since. By the time he was 12 years old, he was installing floors and tiles. From there, he expanded his skillset to include framing, foundations, roofing and siding.

Mr. Scharen completed coursework at the University of Alaska Southeast and is a member of the Better Business Bureau, with which his company is also accredited. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Mr. Scharen makes monetary contributions to the local high school football team, Ducks Unlimited, Territorial Sportsman and Friends of the NRA.

Mr. Scharen attributes his success to his deep-seated passion for helping others. Having navigated the early stages of his career with no guidance, he is determined to ensure that younger generations do not face the same challenges. He believes it is essential to provide every opportunity for success he can offer.

Looking toward the future, Mr. Scharen aims to broaden his service outreach to include more areas in Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, Montana and Wyoming. He also looks forward to continuing to spend quality time with his children and engage in his favorite hobbies, which include hunting and fishing.
