Dr. Gelisen is a distinguished professional in the field of construction management and currently serves as the construction management program coordinator at Bahcesehir University. With a career spanning nearly 30 years, he has dedicated the last decade to teaching project management, transportation, innovation and leadership courses. His extensive experience includes freelance consultancy work to international companies such as Aeroports de Paris, Dogus Group, Hydrostroy AD and Efficio Consulting, which has taken him around the globe. Dr. Gelisen's expertise in project management is widely recognized, and he has contributed to numerous mega-construction projects worldwide.

Dr. Gelisen began his career as an intern engineer at Akturk Yapi Endustrisi ve Ticaret A.S. in 1997, followed by a similar role at Atak Engineering Construction Industry & Trade Inc. Co. in 1998. He then served as a student assistant at the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat from 1999 to 2000 before joining DaimlerChrysler as a research assistant in 2000. Dr. Gelisen's academic journey continued as a teaching assistant at Lehigh University from 2000 to 2001.

Transitioning into industry roles, Dr. Gelisen worked as a senior structural engineer at Parsons Brinckerhoff from 2001 to 2005 and later as a senior project controls engineer at Washington Group International from 2005 to 2007. In 2006, he took on the role of vice president of academic affairs at FTAA for a year before serving as vice president of technology from 2012 to 2015. Concurrently, he was a cost manager at Skanska from 2007 to 2015. Since 2016, Dr. Gelisen has been a full-time professor in the civil engineering department at Bahcesehir University, where he takes great joy in teaching and witnessing his students' growth.

Dr. Gelisen's educational background includes a PhD in construction management from New York University, which he earned in 2010. He also holds a master's degree in computer science from Columbia University and a master's degree in structural engineering from Lehigh University. Earlier in Dr. Gelisen's academic journey, he earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Middle East Technical University and Istanbul Technical University.

Beyond his academic degrees, Dr. Gelisen holds several certifications, including professional engineer licenses in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. He is also an accredited Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Professional, a certified Project Management Professional, and has received Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification, along with various other industry accreditations.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Dr. Gelisen maintains an extensive network with a number of esteemed organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Fritz Engineering Research Society, Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International and the Project Management Institute. He has also been affiliated with the Rotary Club of New York, Chaine des Rotisseurs and the Propeller Club of Istanbul and previously served as president of the Society of Turkish American Architects, Engineers, and Scientists in 2009. Furthermore, Dr. Gelisen is an active volunteer, mentoring young professionals and contributing to Shriners International and The Grotto.

Renowned for his contributions to the field, Dr. Gelisen has co-authored numerous publications, including "Expectations of Headquarters Employees from ERP Systems in the Turkish Construction Sector" and "Automated Productivity-Based Schedule Animation: Simulation-Based Approach to Time-Cost Trade-off Analysis." He has authored two books "We are Under Construction" and "US of America." His vast project experience spans several high-profile global initiatives, such as the New York East Side Access, Riyadh, and Mumbai Metro projects; La Guardia, Istanbul, Tbilisi, Bahrain, Muscat, and Abu Dhabi International Airports; Newtown Creek and Croton Water Treatment Facilities; Aldara Hospital and Medical Center, Hyatt Regency Zadar Maraska and Al Yasmeen Real Estate Development, among several others.

Dr. Gelisen is a strong advocate for green building and sustainability. He is eager to contribute to these areas and showcase his passion for achieving zero carbon emissions and minimizing carbon footprints. Reflecting on his professional journey, Dr. Gelisen attributes much of his success to his mentors, particularly his doctoral thesis adviser, as well as his unwavering passion for teaching.
