Driven by a personal experience during the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Cantrell founded Medex Urgent Care in 2021 to prioritize genuine care and exceptional customer service, emphasizing listening, diagnosing, prescribing and treating patients as individuals rather than numbers. His approach reflects his dedication to ethical practices and contrasts with the often profit-centered focus of the current health care sector in the United States. Additionally, he has been the president and chief executive officer of MacKen Associates since 2005, continuing to impact health care organizations by providing contracting, financial guidance, strategic direction and enhancing market share.

Mr. Cantrell's career is marked by significant achievements, including expanding the Pioneer Medical Group's income by $1.2 million annually and increasing membership by 800 percent. He has successfully reversed multimillion-dollar losses into profitability through financial restructuring and guided Medex Urgent Care to achieve profitability within eight months. His commitment to improving health care conditions is exemplified by his creation of the Athletes for Life Foundation and testing over 7,000 people nationwide for heart disease. The results of these tests have revealed that heart disease is much more prevalent than previously reported. Mr. Cantrell is also working with the government to establish a nonprofit medical care clinic in American Samoa, which reflects his ongoing desire to positively impact people's lives.

Academically, Mr. Cantrell earned a Bachelor of Arts in public administration and finance from San Diego State University in 1991. While his academic foundation provided him with many skills necessary for navigating the complexities of management and leadership, he attributes much of his success in health care to a stroke of luck followed by a strong commitment to service and ethical practices.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Cantrell is actively involved in various civic organizations. In addition to volunteering for the San Diego State University Aztec Mentor Program since 2016, he has served on the board of directors for the Los Alamitos Education Foundation and many local charities and non-profit entities focused on health and children. He is also an advisory board member for MeUglobal, an innovative cloud and mobile platform aimed at improving communication worldwide. He previously held roles as the chief operating officer and chief information officer for the Athletes for Life Foundation.

Outside of his career, Mr. Cantrell is a proud father of one son and one daughter. He enjoys playing golf and collecting wine. A former professional sailor, he participated in two America's Cups and continues to support sporting initiatives as a Beach Cities Youth Lacrosse board member.
