Before founding CP Consulting Services, LLC, Mrs. Phillips served as director of food and nutrition services for School District U-46 from 2009 to 2018. Her lengthy tenure was marked by a signature commitment to fostering productive collaboration that engaged both school and community. She initiated her career in the Chicago Public School system in 1979. She held several positions from test kitchen supervisor, assistant director of food and nutrition services, and food service director of 600 schools, from which she retired in 1995, after which Mrs. Phillips thrived as the president of CP Professional Food Services, Inc., exhibiting broad specialization in food procurement and forging lasting partnerships with manufacturers through 2009.
Mrs. Phillips's expertise in the food service industry is grounded in her upbringing on a farm, where she identified a passion for cooking and curating diverse ingredients as a child. This foundation led her to pursue a bachelor's degree. After obtaining her degree in home economics from Chicago State University in 1975, Mrs. Phillips taught home economics in the Chicago Public Schools. This exposure to the school system allowed her to open doors of opportunity in the school food service sector. She subsequently earned a master's degree in education from National Louis University in 1985.
A desire to stay current in her field and maintain a vast network prompts Mrs. Phillips to remain actively involved in several organizations. Notably, she is a member of the Leadership America Organization. She served as president of the Illinois School Nutrition Association from 1993 to 1994 and also served on the legislative committee of the School Nutrition Association. She currently serves as an executive board member of the DuPage County Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. advisory committee and proudly founded The International Council of Nutrition Solutions Foundation in 1996. Additionally, Mrs. Phillips mentors young authors, a passion she pursued during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Mrs. Phillips attributes her success to having inspiring mentors, including her elementary and high school teachers, who helped her realize her full potential, as well as her professional colleagues. Mrs. Phillips emphasizes the importance of staying focused, having a clear vision, and prioritizing both short-term and long-term objectives.
Mrs. Phillips has been duly recognized for her many meaningful contributions, and she humbly accepted an accolade from the Chatham Business Association. She is also the author of "Knowing Your Heritage Matters: Staying Connected Matters More," reflecting her dedication to personal and cultural awareness. To achieve balance, she enjoys traveling, writing, and spending time with her daughter and two grandchildren. Looking to the future, Mrs. Phillips plans to continue writing and developing programs that expand knowledge, while mentoring individuals on their unique paths to success.
