HAMBURG, NY, May 20, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Thomas T. Luka has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Mr. Luka, an esteemed expert in prehospital emergency medicine, has dedicated his career to advancing paramedic education and supporting emergency personnel. Today, he is recognized as a professor emeritus at Erie Community College in Buffalo, New York, a title he earned in 2013 after many years of dedication to his students as they prepared for their careers in emergency medicine.

Beginning his journey as a medical corpsman in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1969, Mr. Luka honed his skills in medical care. Following his military service, he worked as an EMT, emergency department aide and orthopedic technician at Our Lady of Victory Hospital between 1969 and 1973. This foundational experience set the stage for his future contributions to the field.

In 1975, Mr. Luka became an associate in manpower training with the Lakes Area Emergency Medical Services Corporation in Buffalo. He then served as the Erie County director of paramedic training and operations at Erie County Medical Center from 1976 to 1979. During this time, he also held the position of assistant director for advanced life support development at the Erie County Health Department's Bureau of Emergency Medical Services between 1978 and 1979.

Mr. Luka's most significant professional achievement was his tenure at Erie Community College, where he served as the director of paramedic education and professor from 1979 to 2013. His leadership was instrumental in establishing and advancing paramedic education at the institution.

In preparation for his future, Mr. Luka received a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the State University of New York at Buffalo in 1973 and a Master of Science in health behavioral sciences in 1990. Additionally, he holds a paramedic degree from Erie Community College, obtained in 1975, and is a certified hypnologist.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Luka is actively involved in civic organizations, such as the Western New York Stress Reduction Program, where he was one of the founders. He has also supported the American Heart Association Inc., volunteering his time and expertise.

Throughout his career, Mr. Luka has been recognized for his excellence in education and service. He received numerous awards, including the Harriet Webber Leadership Award from the Wyoming Erie Regional Emergency Medical Services Council and a citation from New York State for service to students. Mr. Luka's dedication to emergency medical services was also acknowledged with a proclamation from the Erie County, New York, executive for his 48 years of service.

Looking ahead, Mr. Luka plans to continue teaching part-time while maintaining his involvement as a counselor at the Western New York Stress Reduction Program. His values of integrity and perseverance, instilled by his parents, continue to guide him in all aspects of life.
