Dr. DeLuca, an esteemed orthopedic surgeon, has dedicated his career to advancing surgical techniques and improving patient care. Since 2007, he has been a pivotal figure at the Orthopedic Institute of Pennsylvania, where he specializes in cervical and lumbar spine surgeries, including endoscopic spine surgery, as well as hip, knee, and shoulder arthroscopy and replacements. His expertise in arthroscopic rotator cuff repairs and endoscopic spine surgery is widely recognized, and he was honored as a Patient Preferred Orthopedic Surgeon in 2021 and included in Becker Spine's list of 50 Spine Surgeons to Know. He is also currently affiliated with numerous hospitals, including the UPMC West Shore Hospital and the UPMC Carlise Hospital.

Beginning with his residency at Pinnacle Health System from 2002 to 2007, Dr. DeLuca considers this work to have provided him with his foundational knowledge and confidence with surgical experience and education. His educational background also includes a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in 2002, a Master of Arts in biomedical sciences from the same institution in 1998 and a Bachelor of Arts in physics from Franklin & Marshall College in 1996.

Dr. DeLuca's path to orthopedic surgery began at age 14, when a knee injury—and a follow-up surgery at 16—led to years of chronic pain. Frequent visits to his orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Richard Godshaw, not only provided relief but also sparked his interest in the field. Dr. Godshaw became a mentor, offering him the opportunity to shadow and learn firsthand. At 51, he underwent a knee replacement himself, bringing his journey full circle.

Throughout his career, Dr. DeLuca has been actively involved in research and development within the field of orthopedics. He often collaborates with orthopedic implant companies to design and improve implants, enhancing the effectiveness of orthopedic surgeries. Notably, he contributed to the development of a new hip replacement and participated in several spine surgery design teams. His work on the TOPS (Total Posterior Stabilization) device for spine surgery was groundbreaking; he was the first surgeon in the United States to use this device as part of an FDA study from 2017 to 2022.

Dr. DeLuca is also a prolific author, contributing to numerous medical journals, including Clinical Spine Surgery, the Journal of Neurosurgery and the Journal of Arthroplasty. His early publications focused on cellular biology, while his more recent works are centered around spine and joint surgery.

Dr. DeLuca's memberships in professional organizations, such as the American Osteopathic Association of Orthopedics, the Pennsylvania Orthopedic Society, the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, the International Society for Advancement of Spine Surgery and the American Hip Foundation further underscore his commitment to excellence in his field. In addition to his professional accomplishments, he is deeply involved in civic activities, sponsoring local charities and initiatives like Teal Blanket.

Outside of his professional life, Dr. DeLuca enjoys spending time with his family, playing golf and traveling. Anticipating the future, he aims to advance minimally invasive techniques in hip, knee, shoulder and spine surgery by incorporating robotics, navigation systems and artificial intelligence into his practice. His focus remains on reducing pain and improving function for his patients while continually refining his skills through education and innovation.
