Ms. Finley has dedicated nearly five decades to the field of education, primarily at Spelman College, where she served under seven presidents teaching Spanish from 1974 to 2023. Her tenure at Spelman was marked by her commitment to teaching, supervision of student teachers, mentoring thesis advisees, and active participation in various committees. Her influence extended beyond the classroom as she played a pivotal role in establishing and nurturing student extracurricular activities, including the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge, which has been a staple on campus for over 20 years. Her efforts in founding the Lambda Nu Chapter of Sigma Delta Pi, the Spanish Honor Society, the Afro-Hispanic Review, and as a Charter Member of the Zora Neale Hurston Society, further underscore her dedication to academic excellence and student engagement. Further, she was active in academic organizations and programs for funded research and presentations in her field at the College Language Association, the African Literature Association, the New York Faculty Resource Network, and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Ms. Finley's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and history from Fisk University, followed by a Master of Arts in Spanish literature from Purdue University. Her fascination with languages was sparked by an early love for Latin, which she encountered through church and elementary school studies. This passion for language evolved into a deep interest in Spanish during her college years. Her support from her students, colleagues and administration at Spelman College was instrumental in her success, allowing her to attend conferences and engage in networking opportunities that enriched her professional life.

Throughout her career, Ms. Finley has been recognized for her contributions to academia and her community. She is a proud member of several prestigious organizations, including the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society, the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society, and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Her involvement with these groups reflects her commitment to fostering academic excellence and cultural understanding.

In addition to her professional achievements, Ms. Finley has significantly contributed to civic organizations. She has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and participated in Hunger Walks, demonstrating her dedication to community service. As a Sunday school teacher, she has shared her knowledge and passion for education with younger generations.

Ms. Finley's life is enriched by her four daughters: Estelle Elena Archibold, Elizabeth Archibold Hale, Enada Archibold Cooper, and Elisha Archibold Wilson, who are a source of pride and inspiration, and are professionally accomplished in the fields of science, management and organization, consulting, and transportation security. Her grandchildren Dahlia and Diallo, along with great-granddaughter Ava Rose, bring joy to her life.

Since 2023, Ms. Finley has been in retirement, but she remains active in her field by attending conferences and exploring opportunities in textbook authorship and editing. She has been involved with the Textbook & Academic Authors Association for the past few years. Her aspirations include publishing work on her family's genealogy within a historical context and traveling more with her family.

Numerous recognitions mark Ms. Finley's legacy at Spelman College for her contributions to the institution's academic community. Her enduring impact on students and colleagues is a testament to her dedication to education and lifelong learning.
