Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
With an extensive career marked by significant contributions to public health and nutrition education, Dr. Greer has established herself as a leading expert in the field of Dietetics. Since 2022, she has served as an adjunct instructor at Mount Mary University, where she teaches community nutrition program management at the graduate level. Her role extends beyond instruction as she also guides students through community engagement experiential learning rotations, fostering the next generation of nutrition professionals.
Additionally, Dr. Greer is the owner of Y-EAT Right, a nutritional consulting business she founded in 1997. Through this venture, she offers specialized services in healthy living and directs multiple Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) grants focused on community engagement and health promotion. Also, an advocate for social change in Milwaukee, she spearheaded two grants aiming to change the city's social determinants of health, to enhance child health through an asset-based community development (ABCD) lens and collective action initiatives. On the national and international level, she is a keynote nutrition speaker who has shared her knowledge and insights at numerous conferences worldwide.
Dr. Greer's wide-ranging experience includes serving as nutritionist coordinator for the City of Milwaukee Health Department from 1989 to 2011, during which she played a pivotal role in promoting public health initiatives across schools, universities, health agencies and faith-based groups. Prior to this, she worked as a cardiac surgery dietitian at Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee, WI from 1980 to 1989 and as a clinical dietitian at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 1977-1979. She furthered her knowledge with a Master of Public Health in public health nutrition from the University of Minnesota, completed in 2000, and culminated her educational pursuits with a Doctorate in public health general practice from Walden University in 2022. To augment her qualifications, she is certified as a dietitian by the State of Wisconsin, a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and has a national provider identifier (NPI) by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services as a medical nutrition therapy (MNT) provider.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Dr. Greer is an accomplished writer and has discussed nutrition and health practices on various television, radio and podcasting platforms. She has authored over 50 abstracts, articles and documents, covering topics such as heart healthy eating while dealing the challenges of daily life, building cooking skills, and much more. She was also the lead author of a prominent peer-reviewed article — published in Frontiers in Public Health in 2024 — that examines methods to promote child health equity through community-based systems dynamics.
Dr. Greer's extensive contributions have been recognized with numerous accolades, including the national 2023 Excellence in Community and Public Health Practice Award from The Academy, as well as the Health Advocacy Award from the Greater Milwaukee Urban League and the President's Excellence in Community Engagement from the Medical College of Wisconsin, both in 2024.
