FORT WORTH, TX, January 06, 2026 /24-7PressRelease/ -- In a collection known for rare supercars, prewar limousines, and celebrity-owned classics, the 2009 Smart Fortwo Cabriolet might seem like the odd one out—until you hear the story behind it. This white convertible, part of the Ron Sturgeon Collection at the DFW Car & Toy Museum, isn't just a clever piece of engineering. It's a reflection of practicality, humor, and the modern city car movement.

Manufactured by the Smart division of Mercedes-Benz, the Fortwo was first introduced in 1998 as a revolutionary city car designed for efficiency and maneuverability. This second-generation W451 model continued the tradition with a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive layout and an ultra-compact one-box design, making it a favorite in crowded urban centers across the globe.

Rated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency as the most fuel-efficient two-seater in its class for the 2008 model year, the Fortwo boasted impressive fuel economy—up to 41 mpg on the highway. By 2015, more than 1.7 million Fortwos had been produced and sold in over 46 countries, earning a cult following for their efficiency, European charm, and surprising drivability. But what makes this particular car even more interesting is the personal anecdote that comes with it.

"I bought this Smart car new after my divorce," says museum founder Ron Sturgeon. "I wanted something fun and different—something I could show up in without making the wrong impression. I always said, "If you pick up a new girl for a blind date in a Ferrari, you'll never know if she really loves you."

That sense of humor—and the understated style of the Smart Fortwo—make this car a standout piece in the museum's eclectic mix. It may not have a V12 or a racing pedigree, but it does offer insight into the evolution of modern mobility and the stories cars continue to tell about the people who drive them.
