GUNTER, TX, July 02, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Julie E. Merrill, EdD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
An esteemed expert in math education and professional learning experiences, Dr. Merrill has dedicated over three decades to transforming the educational landscape. As the owner and senior consultant of Math Beyond Solutions LLC, she assesses the needs of various school districts across the United States and utilizes workshops to help educators expand their knowledge in both content and pedagogy. Committed to enhancing curriculum development and teacher training, she also undertakes contract projects with several national companies and collaborates with out-of-state contractors who need standards alignment documents.
Prior to establishing Math Beyond Solutions, Dr. Merrill served as the national math academic specialist at ALI from 2022 to 2024. During this period, she leveraged her extensive knowledge to support educators nationwide, ensuring that math instruction was both effective and engaging. Her efforts were pivotal in aligning educational practices with national standards, thereby improving student outcomes.
From 2014 to 2022, Dr. Merrill was the pre-kindergarten through 12th grade (PK-12) math coordinator for Irving Independent School District. It was here that she achieved one of her most notable career accomplishments to date: increasing the district's math scores, in some cases by double digits, within five years through comprehensive professional development and curriculum redesign. The success of this initiative underscored her ability to address students' needs and enhance the quality of their education in various areas.
Dr. Merrill's equally impressive academic journey laid a strong foundation for her career in math education and educator training. She earned a Doctor of Education in curriculum and instruction as well as a Master of Science in mathematics, both from Texas A&M University. Further enriching her interdisciplinary approach to education, she completed a Bachelor of Arts in literary studies and mathematics with a minor in chemistry from The University of Texas at Dallas.
To augment her qualifications, Dr. Merrill successfully obtained a teaching certification from the Texas Education Agency. Her passion for math education is deeply rooted in personal experiences with ineffective teaching methods during her own schooling. Determined to change the narrative, she spent nearly 20 years teaching mathematics at various educational levels before transitioning into roles that allowed her to influence broader educational practices. Following in the footsteps of her parents and grandparents, all of whom were educators as well, she remains fueled by a desire to ensure that no student develops a dislike for math due to a lack of meaningful instruction.
In addition to her professional endeavors, Dr. Merrill is actively involved in industry-related organizations such as the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, the National Council of Supervisors of Mathematics, the Texas Association of Supervisors of Mathematics and McMath, showing her dedication to sharing knowledge and best practices. She has also held leadership positions as treasurer for the North Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics and was the NE regional director for the Texas Council of Teachers of Mathematics for two years.
Dr. Merrill's storied contributions have seen her selected for inclusion in Who's Who Among American Teachers and garnered multiple nominations for Most Outstanding Teacher accolades. Beyond her professional life, she is a proud supporter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as well as various military veteran organizations, reflecting her commitment to civic engagement.
Looking to the future with determination, Dr. Merrill aims to change perceptions of math by influencing teaching methods and expanding educators' understanding through speaking engagements at national and state conferences. With her unique blend of personal and professional experience and unwavering dedication to improving student outcomes, she continues to make a powerful impact on math education and the teaching field at large.
