Previously, Dr. Mahdavi was chairman of the department of hematology-oncology from 2005 to 2007.
Dr. Mahdavi initiated his career as a physician in the Iranian Navy from 1969 to 1972, which forged a strong foundation for his advancement in medicine. His academic accomplishments include an MD from the University of Tehran School of Medicine, which he completed in 1969, and in 1979, he was recognized as a fellow in hematology-oncology by Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Notably, Dr. Mahdavi completed a residency in internal medicine at the University of Illinois, Chicago, and secured board certification in internal medicine in hematology and medical oncology.
Dr. Mahdavi's professional affiliations are diverse. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and holds sustained memberships in the American Society of Clinical Oncology, American Medical Association and Medical Oncology Association of Southern California. These associations reflect Dr. Mahdavi's commitment to remaining current in evolving trends and engaging with industry developments while contributing to the broader medical community.
Throughout his career, Dr. Mahdavi has been recognized for his contributions to medicine and his community. He was named a Top Physician in Orange County in both 2021 and 2022 and received the prestigious Humanitarian of the Year award from the National Conference for Community and Justice in 2002. Dr. Mahdavi actively seeks service opportunities as well and participated on the Physicians Governance Committee at Hoag Family Cancer Institute from 2012 to 2015.
