SAN FRANCISCO, CA, July 08, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Andre R. Campbell, MD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. Dr. Campbell has established a distinguished career in the medical field, marked by his dedication to education and patient care. He is a professor of surgery at University of California San Francisco and attending surgeon at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital. In addition he is an adjunct professor at the F. Edward Hebert School of Medicine, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, since 2019. As a professor of surgery at UCSF, he has been instrumental in shaping the next generation of surgeons. His role involves performing surgeries and imparting critical knowledge to medical students, surgical residents and fellows specializing in critical care and acute care surgery. Additionally, he serves on the editorial board of several medical journals, contributing to the advancement of medical literature.

In addition to his primary role, Dr. Campbell has held the position of professor of surgery at the University of California, San Francisco, since 2006. His tenure at this prestigious institution is characterized by his commitment to supporting students from underrepresented groups in medicine. Prior to this role, he served as an associate professor from 2000 to 2006 and as an assistant professor from 1994 to 2000. His journey at the University of California, San Francisco began as a clinical instructor of surgery from 1993 to 1994. During his time there, he also held the endowed chair in surgical education from 2003 to 2014.

Dr. Campbell's expertise extends beyond academia into practical applications at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center, where he has been an attending surgeon and attending physician in surgical critical care since 1993. His experience includes serving in various surgeon and physician roles at other institutions, including the VA Intensive Care Unit for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Dobbs Ferry Emergency Medicine and New York Presbyterian Hospital, Allen Pavilion.

A testament to his expertise in trauma, general and acute care surgery, Dr. Campbell is recognized for being one of the first individuals in his family to become a doctor and the first in his generation to attend college. He holds board certifications in surgery, critical care and in the past, he was certified in internal medicine—a rare achievement that once placed him among only four individuals with such credentials.

Dr. Campbell's academic journey began with a Bachelor of Arts in biology from Harvard University in 1980, followed by earning his Doctor of Medicine from the University of California, San Francisco in 1985. He completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 1986 and continued with a residency in general surgery until 1991. He then served as chief resident in general surgery in 1992 before completing a fellowship in surgical critical care at New York-Presbyterian Hospital in 1993 and another fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco in 2000.

Dr. Campbell's contributions extend beyond academia through his involvement with civic organizations such as Camp Rising Sun and the Scared Straight Program. His accolades include numerous teaching awards from the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine and recognition by state officials with "Dr. Andre Campbell Day" declared by the mayor of San Francisco. On that day he was recognized by the governor of California, the comptroller of the State of California and the State Legislature with a proclamation in his honor. He is particularly proud of being granted a San Francisco General Hospital "Heart and Heroes Award" for his contribution to the hospital and the City and County of San Francisco.

In addition to authoring over one hundred manuscripts, abstracts and book chapters, Dr. Campbell has contributed significantly to medical literature with works on many topics in the field of trauma and acute care surgery over the years. He has lectured locally, nationally and internationally on many topics over his long and distinguished career.

From an early age, Dr. Campbell was captivated by astronomy and initially aspired to become an astronaut with his strong aptitude for science evident throughout his academic journey. By the time he reached seventh grade, he began to recognize that his passion for science could be meaningfully applied to helping others. This realization sparked a deep interest in medicine and ultimately led him to pursue a career as a physician.

Outside his professional life, Dr. Campbell enjoys watching basketball, learning new things, reading and traveling as hobbies. Reflecting on his professional life, he acknowledges the role that his work ethic has played in his accomplishments.
