Prior to his tenure at Fannie Mae, Mr. Brunson served as director of technology risk at Capital One from 2017 to 2018. In this role, he oversaw the creation af a governance structure to identify and manage technology-related risks thus ensuring the company's data management practices were robust and secured the enterprise's technology data. His expertise in large-scale data management was further honed as a senior data executive at KPMG Advisory from 2009 to 2017, where he led data strategy, governance and technology risk management initiatives.
Mr. Brunson's career trajectory includes significant leadership roles across various organizations. From 2004 to 2009, he was managing director of worldwide financial services at Hewlett-Packard Enterprise, where he spearheaded global initiatives in financial services technology. Earlier, as a partner at Deloitte Consulting from 1990 to 2003, he was pivotal in advising clients on data management and technology solutions. His entrepreneurial spirit was evident when he founded Financial Information Products Inc. serving as its leader from 1986 to 1990.
In addition to his corporate achievements, Mr. Brunson has contributed to academia as a faculty member and lecturer at the Graduate School of Banking and the Graduate School of Bank Marketing in Boulder, Colorado. His involvement with these institutions spanned several decades, reflecting his commitment to educating future leaders in banking and finance. His involvement also included servicing as a guest lecturer on global data management at major universities across China, North America, and Europe.
Mr. Brunson's educational background laid a strong foundation for his career accomplishments. He holds a Master of Business Administration in management of financial institutions from The Stonier School of Banking at Rutgers University (1983) and another Master of Business Administration in international finance from Georgia State University, completed in 1973. He earned a Bachelor of Science in commerce focusing on market research and data analytics from the University of Virginia in 1971. Additionally, and he completed certifications at the Seidman School of Auditing at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Brunson is deeply involved in civic activities. He operates an equine rehabilitation, rescue and hospice facility in Loudoun County, Virginia, demonstrating his commitment to community service and animal welfare. His past civic roles include serving as mayor of Broeck Pointe, Kentucky, from 1980 to 1984 and vice chairman of the Southeastern Economic Project Inc. in Atlanta from 1972 to 1974.
Mr. Brunson's personal life is enriched by his family and interests outside of work. He enjoys woodworking, geneaology and actively engages with his family's equine-centered activities.
