Dr. Davidson has built his medical career on a guiding principle: "Do the right thing at the right time."

DALLAS, TX, July 14, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Ingemar Davidson, MD, PhD, founder of the Kidney Academy and co-director emeritus of Controversies in Dialysis Access (CiDA), was selected by Marquis Who's Who for a prominent feature in the Texas Edition of The Wall Street Journal, published on May 29, 2025.

Dr. Davidson has built his medical career on a guiding principle: "Do the right thing at the right time." In 2007, he published this ethos in the Journal of Vascular Access as a mission statement (1), one that has since been embraced by the global medical community. It reads, "Do the right thing for your fellow human being, at the right time, in the right amount, for the right reason, within the framework of your conscience, skills, and knowledge, modeled by the culture and society laws in which you live." This concept was formally acknowledged in the 2019 KDOQI Guidelines, now used worldwide in dialysis access care (2, 3).

A native of Sweden, Dr. Davidson dreamed from a young age of working in the United States. After earning an MD from the University of Gothenburg in 1970, he completed surgical training at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, where a mentor with ties to the U.S. encouraged him to pursue a research fellowship at Tulane University in New Orleans. He later returned to Sweden to complete a PhD before ultimately establishing his career in the U.S.

Dr. Davidson served for decades as a transplant and vascular access surgeon, most notably at Parkland Memorial Hospital and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he also held a professorship in surgery. After retiring from clinical practice, he continues to advance in the field through education and international collaboration.

In 2018, Dr. Davidson founded the Kidney Academy, a nonprofit online educational platform accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). The academy offers specialized online training modules for global dialysis access professionals. Dr. Davidson continues to develop the academy in collaboration with international leaders in the field, including Dr. Richard Neville (U.S.), Dr. Maurizio Gallieni (Italy) and colleagues in Sweden, the U.K., Australia and Malaysia.

Dr. Davidson also founded and served as co-director of Controversies in Dialysis Access (CiDA) from 2003 to 2022, a forum for innovation and discussion in the dialysis access field. Over his long career, he has published numerous scholarly articles and books, including "Dialysis Access Steal Syndrome: Diagnosis, Prevention and Treatment Strategies," "Safety in Dialysis Access, The Aviation Metaphor," and "Changing the Peritoneal Dialysis Access Algorithm." He has presented at international congresses and serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Vascular Access.

Dr. Davidson is a present or past member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and the American Society of Diagnostic and Interventional Nephrology. He was a founding member of Dialysis Access Synergy of Singapore. Still driven by curiosity and conscience, Dr. Davidson adheres to the idea of "intellectual humility," which he defines as his unique manner of navigating a complex, divergent international community. He also remains deeply engaged in advancing patient-centered education and care on a global scale.
