Along with his ownership role at Citron Hennessey, Mr. Hennessey served as the executive director of the Institute for Human Identity from 2012 to 2021. During this period, he played a pivotal role in revitalizing the institute, which was struggling with debt and on the brink of closure. Through his leadership and focus on high-quality clinical training, he successfully turned the institution around, generating substantial profits and earning the company recognition as a three-time recipient of the Best Counseling Center in New York award from 2014 to 2016.

Earlier in his tenure at the Institute for Human Identity, Mr. Hennessey held the position of director of graduate training from 2010 to 2015. In this capacity, he was responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive training programs that equipped future clinicians with the skills necessary to excel in their careers. His dedication to advancing clinical education is evident in his ongoing commitment to enhancing training programs for graduate students.

Mr. Hennessey's storied journey into psychotherapy began after a successful career in leadership roles within the art industry. After graduating with honors from the University of Reading with a Bachelor of Arts in history in 1987, he worked in management positions in London before becoming the director of an art gallery that expanded to New York. This move sparked his interest in human behavior, leading him to pursue studies in psychology at night school. His subsequent academic achievements include a Master of Education in counseling psychology and a Master of Arts in psychology education from Columbia University, both obtained in 2008.

To augment his knowledge and qualifications, Mr. Hennessey earned a postgraduate certificate in advanced clinical practice from New York University as well as postgraduate certification in psychology from the Australian College of Applied Psychology. He also completed the primary practicum in rational emotive behavior therapy at the Albert Ellis Institute, equipping himself even further to serve his patients' mental health and well-being.

Determined to stay aware of the latest developments and best practices within the field, Mr. Hennessey is an active member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association. He also holds the title of director emeritus on the board of directors at the Institute for Human Identity.
