Her career began as a special education teacher for autism at a middle school within the El Paso Independent School District. During her eight-year tenure, she developed innovative teaching strategies that catered to the unique needs of her students, laying a strong foundation for her future endeavors.

Following her initial teaching role, Ms. Garcia joined the Education Service Center in the Socorro Independent School District where she served for eight years as an Instructional Specialist, which involved bridging communication between various educational stakeholders to ensure that inclusive practices were effectively implemented across schools. This experience honed her skills in collaboration and advocacy, which would prove invaluable in her subsequent roles.

In 2012, Ms. Garcia transitioned to the Education Service Center XIX as an instructional specialist. Over the course of six years, she provided critical support and training to educators, enhancing their ability to deliver inclusive education. Her expertise was further recognized when she was appointed project manager of inclusion at the exact center. For twelve years until her retirement in 2024, she led initiatives that improved educational access and outcomes for students with diverse learning needs.

Ms. Garcia's academic background has been instrumental in her professional success. She earned a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Texas at El Paso in 1986, followed by a master's degree from the University of Phoenix in 2004. Her certification in special education from the University of Texas at El Paso further solidified her credentials and equipped her with the knowledge necessary to excel in her field.

Beyond her professional achievements, Ms. Garcia has made significant contributions through civic engagement. As a volunteer with Special Olympics, she has demonstrated a commitment to empowering individuals with disabilities. Her dedication was recognized when she received the Coach of the Year award from Special Olympics, highlighting her impact on both athletes and the community.

In addition to her work in education and civic involvement, Ms. Garcia co-authored a chapter titled "Teaching Executive Functions: Modeling Independence from Cradles to College for Success" in the book "Promoting Higher Order Skills and Global Competencies in Life and Work." This publication underscores her commitment to advancing educational research and practice.

Looking ahead, Ms. Garcia aspires to return to part-time work once she regains her health. Her personal interests include reading, watching television and documentaries, and traveling. With the support of her family, particularly inspired by her father's emphasis on education and her husband's unwavering encouragement, Ms. Garcia remains driven by a passion for learning and teaching.
