The GCTP issued the following statement, asking for:
1. Immediate De-escalation: Avoid actions that heighten tensions or provoke confrontation to maintain regional stability and protect border communities.
2. Rebuilding Trust through Dialogue: Resume and strengthen diplomatic and parliamentary communication channels to address concerns in good faith.
3. Normalization of Cross-Border Trade: Restore economic confidence and cooperation by facilitating trade and customs operations crucial for local livelihoods.
4. Respect for International Law: Ensure all actions comply with existing treaties, ASEAN commitments, and peaceful dispute resolution mechanisms.
The GCTP reaffirms its unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of both Cambodia and Thailand and calls on all stakeholders to engage in constructive efforts toward lasting peace.
H.E. Ahmed Aljarwan, a former President of the Arab Parliament, Member of Parliament of the UAE and diplomat, is the Founder and President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace in Malta and the Foundation for Culture and Religious Tolerance in Spain. The International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace, one of the two organs of the GCTP, is consisted of members of over 100 national parliaments globally and convenes regulary to express positions and suggest solutions to issues concerning tolerance and peace globally.
