Since 2018, Ms. Kristo Nesho has held the positions of Representative of the Albanian Ministry of Defense to the UN and Senior Defense Adviser and Minister Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Albania to the UN. In this capacity, she represents the government and the Albanian Ministry of Defense on matters related to peacekeeping operations, humanitarian efforts, disarmament and advancing global peace initiatives. Her role is pivotal in fostering international cooperation and ensuring Albania's active participation in global peace initiatives.

Her legal career is equally distinguished. Ms. Kristo Nesho has vast experience in law, and among her most notable accomplishments is that she was the youngest judge ever elected in Albania. She served as a judge on the bench in the District Court of Tirana, one of the most prominent judicial institutions in Albania, for a seven-year period.

Leveraging her former success, Ms. Kristo Nesho served as the head of the Consular Office at the Albanian Embassy to the U.S. in Washington, D.C., from 2012 to 2017. During this period, she was instrumental in strengthening diplomatic relations between Albania and the U.S., facilitating consular services and supporting Albanian citizens abroad. She leveraged her leadership and diplomatic acumen to strengthen bilateral ties and foster cultural exchange. Earlier in her career, she served as the representative of Albania to the United Nations Sixth Committee (Legal Committee), holding this position from 2001 to 2006.

In 1997, Ms. Kristo Nesho relocated to the United States, where she contributed meaningfully and played a vital role in key diplomatic, cultural and community engagements, alongside her spouse, the Permanent Representative (Ambassador) of Albania to the United Nations from 1997 to 2005.

From 2006 to 2011, Ms. Kristo Nesho served as a senior adviser to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Albania. Her legal expertise and strategic insights played a pivotal role in advancing judicial reform in Albania and strengthening the rule of law. In her ex officio capacity as the director of the National Judicial Conference, she contributed to the development of national judicial policies and institutional reforms. Her work in this role underscores her deep commitment to justice, upholding legal integrity and institutional advancement in Albania.

Between 1986 and 1992, Ms. Kristo Nesho served as the youngest-ever Judge on the District Court of Tirana, Albania, which is among the most notable accomplishments in her career. Later, from 1993 until 1997, she established and led her law firm, while remaining an active member of the Albanian Bar Association.

Ms. Kristo Nesho's academic background laid a strong foundation for her illustrious career. She earned a Doctor of Jurisprudence with honors from the University of Tirana in 1985. Furthering her education, her academic pursuits included postgraduate studies in American Law and Institutions at New York University from 2003 to 2004, where she expanded her knowledge in American law, governance and international law. These academic achievements equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of both Albanian and international legal systems, enabling her to navigate complex diplomatic challenges effectively.

Ms. Kristo Nesho's appointment to the International Advisory Board of Lawyers Without Borders adds to her credentials and reflects her commitment to global justice and human rights advocacy. In addition to her professional affiliations, she is deeply committed to civic engagement and humanitarian efforts. In 2024, she founded the Albanian Heritage Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Albania's heritage, supporting vulnerable populations, and advancing women's rights and leadership. Ms. Kristo Nesho's leadership in this initiative reflects her unwavering dedication to improving lives and fostering cultural heritage.

Besides being the youngest judge ever elected in Albania, she also made history as the first woman representative of the Ministry of Defense of Albania to the UN. During her tenure, she played a central role in deploying the first Albanian women in uniform to serve in the UN Peace Operation, as the first women peacekeepers under the UN Blue Berets.

Ms. Kristo Nesho's contributions have been recognized with prestigious accolades, including the Military and Police Advisers' Community Medal, which was awarded by the Military and Police Advisers Community in 2024.
