She also manages budgets and purchase orders, utilizes platforms for order management, tracks project timelines with contract research organizations and approves invoices to ensure timely vendor payment.
Prior to being promoted to her current position, Ms. Bhattacharyya was the outsourcing lead for large molecule biologics and vaccines at Merck from 2015 to 2022. When she held this position, she played a pivotal role in the success of blockbuster drugs like Keytruda and Gardasil, contributing to the success of over 50 Keytruda trials and 10 Gardasil trials, and making significant contributions to Merck's earnings growth. She has the unique biotech life cycle experience of contributing to the Keytruda program from its acquisition from Organon by Merck right up to its approval stage.
In 2015, Ms. Bhattacharyya briefly held the position of senior scientist at Merck before transitioning to her role as outsourcing lead. For the preceding six years, she served as a scientist at Merck, where she honed her skills in research and development. Her journey with the firm began in 2006 when she joined as an associate scientist, a role she held until 2009.
Before joining Merck, Ms. Bhattacharyya worked as a scientist at Veridex LLC, a Johnson & Johnson company, from 2005 to 2006. Her research career commenced at Rutgers University in 2002, where she gained valuable experience that laid the foundation for her future endeavors.
Ms. Bhattacharyya's academic achievements have been instrumental in her professional success. She earned an Executive Master of Business Administration in biopharma innovation from Rutgers University in 2011 and a master's degree in biology from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 1999, both of which she completed after coming to the United States from India. Additionally, she is a Certified Project Manager and a Certified Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt from Merck.
Overall, Ms. Bhattacharyya credits her success to the unwavering support of her family, particularly her mother, who made significant sacrifices to provide a stable and secure life for her children as a single parent. Ms. Bhattacharyya is also deeply grateful for the encouragement from her husband's family and close friends, whose support has been instrumental as she balanced motherhood and her career. She was originally inspired to go into medical research by her father who was a neurosurgeon serving in remote areas. After a personal loss, she was even more determined to return to her roots, gain an education and use her talents to serve others.
Dedicated to her community, Ms. Bhattacharyya is involved in civic engagement. She serves as secretary of the Krishnaa Foundation and is involved with the Merck Women's Network and the United Nations Women's Guild. She is further committed to helping underprivileged children afford college education in the United States and supports her own children's career paths.
