Possessing more than 10 years of professional excellence in medicine, Dr. Smay has already established herself as a crucial figure in the field of anesthesia services throughout the Tulsa, Oklahoma, region. Since 2013, she has served as the president and chief executive officer of Montgomery Anesthesia Service, P.C., where she focuses on pediatric and clinical anesthesiology. Throughout her career, Dr. Smay has attributed her profound success to many factors, including her innate curiosity, commitment to lifelong learning, and a strong desire to make a positive difference in the world.

Earlier in her career, Dr. Smay served as a medical director with NorthStar Anesthesia in Muskogee, Oklahoma, between 2020 and 2023. Concurrently, she was the regional medical director at the facility, overseeing Oklahoma, Kansas and Missouri from 2022 to 2023. During her tenure at the organization, Dr. Smay demonstrated her skills as an expert business operator, solidifying her reputation as a steadfast patient advocate and skilled anesthesiologist. For her success, she was honored with the One Team Award from NorthStar Anesthesia in 2023.

Previously, Dr. Smay served as a pediatric anesthesiologist at the Hillcrest Healthcare System in Tulsa from 2019 to 2020 and at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, from 2017 to 2019. She also worked in the same capacity at the St. John Health System in Tulsa from 2014 to 2017, having commenced her career as an assistant professor at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 2012.

Highly educated, Dr. Smay pursued a formal education at Duke University, receiving a Bachelor of Science in psychology in 1995. After many years in the field, she attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine, earning a Doctor of Medicine in 2007. For the next four years, Dr. Smay completed a residency in anesthesiology at the School of Medicine of the University of Illinois at Chicago, followed by a fellowship in pediatric anesthesiology, which she completed at the same institution in 2012. Desiring to enact further positive change in the world of health care, Dr. Smay recently earned a Master of Business Administration in health sector management from the Fuqua School of Business at Duke University in 2023.

Dr. Smay completed the Black Corporate Board Readiness (BCBR) program at the Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business in 2024 and is board-certified in both anesthesiology and pediatric anesthesiology. She has also been actively affiliated with several organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Board of Anesthesiologists and the Society for Pediatric Anesthesiology. Furthermore, she has served on the board of advisors of and invested in the Diabetes Reversal Group since January 2025 and, since 2021, has been on the board of advisors of Transdermal Solutions LLC.
