Dr. Muir has dedicated her career to the field of clinical psychology, with a particular focus on family therapy and child psychiatry. Her journey began in Jamaica during her first year of high school when she was inspired by a book on play therapy. This early interest led Dr. Muir to pursue a career marked by significant achievements and contributions to the field.

In 2007, Dr. Muir became the executive director of the BRIEF STRATEGIC FAMILY THERAPY® Institute at the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami. In this role, she developed an implementation model to disseminate Brief Strategic Family Therapy, a family therapy model designed for drug-using and delinquent adolescents. Beyond her essential body of work at the University of Miami, Dr. Muir has maintained a private practice as a licensed psychologist since 2000, where she continues to provide valuable services to families. Based in Plantation, Florida, in Broward County, she provides comprehensive psychotherapy services to couples and families in areas such as pre-marital counseling, relationship conflict and breakups, and other relationship issues. Dr. Muir also provides consultation support to entrepreneurs and other business leaders.

Dr. Muir initially began her career at the University of Miami in 1998, where she served as an assistant research professor until 2004. This position enabled her to make significant contributions to academic research and education.

Having earned an extensive education, Dr. Muir received a Master of Arts in clinical psychology in 1989 and a Doctor of Philosophy in clinical psychology in 1995 from Fordham University. Her distinguished education was complemented by her training, which included a predoctoral fellowship at the school of medicine at Yale University in 1993, followed by a postdoctoral fellowship in child psychiatry at the New York State Psychiatric Institute at Columbia University in 1995. These academic accomplishments laid the foundation for Dr. Muir's successful career.

Dr. Muir's professional affiliations include serving as a national secretary for the Association of Black Psychologists and as the president of the South Florida chapter of the American Psychological Association. These roles underscore her commitment to advancing the field and supporting fellow professionals. As a speaker on youth and families both locally and nationally, Dr. Muir shares her insights and expertise widely.

Dr. Muir's contributions extend beyond her professional work into civic engagement. She was involved with organizations such as the United Way Young Leaders Society and the Mayor's Early Childhood Initiative, serving as a member of its parent and family skills task force. Additionally, Dr. Muir is active on the Woodson Williams Marshall Association's executive committee at the University of Miami.

In light of her research and education, Dr. Muir has been recognized with various accolades, including the Minority Research Fellow award from the National Institute of Mental Health's Department of Child Psychiatry at Columbia University in 1999.
