From 2002 to 2005, Mr. Reid was appointed special agent in charge at the Denver Federal Bureau of Investigation field office, which was responsible for FBI investigations in both Colorado and Wyoming. Concurrently, from 2000 to 2005, he was a member of the senior executive service within the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In these roles, he provided strategic oversight for major investigations and led multidisciplinary teams in high-stakes environments. His tenure was characterized by a focus on counterterrorism initiatives and interagency collaboration.
Between 1998 and 2002, Mr. Reid served as special agent in charge at the Anchorage Federal Bureau of Investigation field office. He directed critical operations throughout Alaska, working closely with local, state and federal partners to address emerging threats and safeguard national interests.
Mr. Reid's distinguished career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation began in 1977 as an agent. Over nearly three decades, he rose through the ranks to become a respected leader within the Bureau. Among his most notable achievements was his investigative work on high-profile international cases, including the Pan Am Flight 103 bombing over Lockerbie, Scotland—a case he regards as his proudest accomplishment. His efforts were later featured in award-winning documentaries by Sky TV and CNN. Mr. Reid also played key roles in cases across Asia and Pacific Rim countries, collaborated with global intelligence agencies and broke barriers as an African American in the Bureau, striving to lead by example and inspire others.
Before joining federal service, Mr. Reid began his law enforcement career as a police agent with the Baltimore City Police Department from 1969 to 1977. This foundational experience provided him with firsthand knowledge of urban policing and community engagement.
Throughout his career, Mr. Reid has been recognized for his outstanding contributions to public service and law enforcement. He was honored with inclusion in Who's Who in Black Chicago in 2006 and received the Distinguished Service Award from the Douglas County Colorado Sheriff's Office. In 2004, he was presented with a Central Intelligence Agency Plaque acknowledging his collaborative efforts on national security matters. The mayor of Anchorage proclaimed Phillip B.J. Reid Appreciation Day in 2002 in recognition of his impact on the community; that same year, he received both the Governor's Alaska Legion of Merit Award and a commendation from the United States Coast Guard Commander of the Seventeenth Coast Guard District.

Mr. Reid earned a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Morgan State University in Baltimore in 1975 after completing an Associate of Arts in criminal justice and law enforcement at Community College of Baltimore in 1973. These studies equipped him with critical analytical skills and a deep understanding of social dynamics—attributes that proved invaluable throughout his investigative career.
Mr. Reid was an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives. He is currently a member of Sigma Pi Phi fraternity and the Regional FBI Retired Agents Association.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Mr. Reid has demonstrated a strong commitment to civic engagement, serving as a volunteer on the STEM Committee at Florida Gulf Coast University, where he supports educational initiatives aimed at inspiring future generations.
