Ms. Young has established a distinguished career in histology, currently serving as the histology clinical laboratory supervisor at John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, Cook County Health since 2023. In this capacity, she manages the comprehensive workflow of incoming slides, ensuring accuracy in hematoxylin and eosin stains and reviewing special stains. Her responsibilities include verifying immunohistochemistry procedures, passing slides to pathologists for further review and feedback and confirming the quality of frozen sections by cutting slides, performing stains and examining them microscopically. She also oversees the maintenance of the cryostat, handles legal cases involving tissue samples, coordinates the packing and transfer of slides and blocks to other institutions and communicates with legal firms regarding inventory management and retention policies.

Prior to her current role, Ms. Young was the section supervisor of histology at Mount Sinai Hospital, Sinai Chicago from 2003 to 2019. During her tenure, she led a team responsible for advanced histological techniques and quality assurance in laboratory operations. Her leadership contributed to the hospital's reputation for excellence in pathology services.

Ms. Young's professional journey began at Rush Hospital, where she dedicated more than 20 years to advancing her expertise in imaging techniques and microscopic tissue anatomy. This extensive experience provided a strong foundation for her subsequent supervisory roles and established her as a respected figure in the field.

Among her most notable achievements are passing the American Society for Clinical Pathology certification examination and mastering immunohistochemistry procedures, interpretations and special stains—accomplishments that have brought her significant professional satisfaction. Ms. Young is an active member of the American Society for Clinical Pathology and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Inc., reflecting her commitment to ongoing professional development and community engagement.

Ms. Young's academic background includes a Master of Business Administration in business administration and management from Benedictine University in 2010 and a bachelor's degree in management from Benedictine University in 2007. She further enhanced her credentials with a certification in histology from Indiana University at Purdue University in 2013. Her educational achievements have been instrumental in equipping her with the leadership skills necessary for managing complex laboratory environments.

In addition to her formal education, Ms. Young attended mortuary science school in 1979 for one year, driven by an early interest in that field before ultimately choosing to pursue a different career path. Civic engagement is also central to her life; since 2014, she has volunteered at a local food pantry, assisting with packing boxes for those in need—a testament to her dedication to service beyond her professional obligations.

Recognized with an award from Mount Sinai Hospital for her outstanding contributions, Ms. Young attributes her success to her motivation to achieve personal goals and to set an example for her children that perseverance can make anything possible.

Outside of her professional commitments, Ms. Young enjoys archery as a personal pursuit. She is also devoted to her family, which includes her husband of 40 years, two children and a granddaughter. Looking ahead, she anticipates retirement with aspirations of returning to academia to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy degree.
