SALEM, OR, September 09, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alaina L. Randerson, OTD, MS, OTR/L, CBIS, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Randerson is a leading expert in traumatic brain injuries and neurological conditions who has earned recognition for advancing the field of occupational therapy. In her current capacity as an occupational therapist at Oregon State Hospital since January 2025, she manages 10 treatment mall groups focused on life skills development, equipping patients with the tools necessary for successful transition and reintegration into the community. She also facilitates sensory and cognitive assessments and interventions, ensuring comprehensive care for individuals with complex needs. Her expertise is further reflected in her concurrent role as an IRB prisoner representative with the Oregon Health Authority, where she contributes to ethical oversight and advocacy for justice-impacted individuals engaging in clinical trials research.
From 2021 to 2024, Dr. Randerson served as an occupational therapy anatomy and neuroanatomy tutor at the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. In this academic setting, she provided critical support to students navigating rigorous coursework, drawing upon her extensive knowledge base to foster the next generation of practitioners. Her research acumen was evident during her tenure as an occupational therapy student researcher in 2024 with Life After Incarceration: Transition and Reentry. Dr. Randerson's most notable achievement emerged from this period—her groundbreaking doctoral research explored the lived experiences of justice-impacted individuals who have sustained mild traumatic brain injuries. This pioneering study is believed to be the first to gather qualitative data illuminating the complex realities and unique challenges faced by this underrepresented population.
Dr. Randerson's clinical training includes fieldwork at Alaska Psychiatric Institute in 2024 and The Eden of Las Colinas Wellness & Rehabilitation Center in 2023, where she honed her skills in diverse therapeutic environments. Prior to these roles, she contributed as a clinical trials coordinator at Providence Health & Services from 2019 to 2023, contributing toward the data collection, analysis, and monitoring related to multiple sclerosis, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, dementia, and phase I, multi-indication cancer trials. Her leadership capabilities were also demonstrated during her time as director of operations and rehabilitation at Northwest Functional Neurology from 2016 to 2019 and previously as rehabilitative coordinator from 2014 to 2016.
Dr. Randerson earned a Doctorate of Occupational Therapy from the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences in 2024, where her research set new standards for understanding brain injury within justice-impacted populations. She holds a Master of Science in human nutrition and functional medicine from the University of Western States, completed in 2018, which deepened her understanding of holistic health approaches. Her Bachelor of Science in health and exercise science with a concentration in sports medicine was awarded by Colorado State University in 2011, providing a strong basis in human physiology and health promotion.
Her professional qualifications include numerous certifications, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills training at Oregon State Hospital, IRB member certification from CITI Program, Mandt crisis and de-escalation training from The Mandt System, certified brain injury specialist through the Brain Injury Association of America, and improving cultural competency for behavioral health professionals certification. Dr. Randerson is also an active member of several industry-related organizations, including the National Board of Occupational Therapy, World Federation of Occupational Therapy, American Occupational Therapy Association, and the Brain Injury Alliance of America, reflecting her engagement with ongoing professional development and advocacy efforts.
Her dedication extends beyond clinical practice into civic engagement. Dr. Randerson has volunteered with administration projects for Life After Incarceration: Transition and Reentry, as an occupational therapy technology laboratory volunteer at Craig Hospital, was a behavioral therapies volunteer with Adaptive Recreational Opportunities, and participated in the Senior Nutrition Program with Volunteers of America. Throughout her career, she has received unwavering support from her family and mentors Michael Sutcliffe and Arianna Gonzalez. She attributes her achievements to unwavering dedication, deep personal work and an emphasis on cultivating compassion while striving to understand both individuals with traumatic brain injuries and those impacted by the justice system.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Randerson enjoys paddle boarding, kayaking, snowboarding, camping, reading, playing with her dog, and hiking. Looking ahead, she aims to expand her advocacy for justice-impacted individuals living with traumatic brain injuries by influencing meaningful reforms across the criminal justice continuum. She is also set to present her research at the World Federation of Occupational Therapy Congress in Thailand in 2026.
