Under Mr. Roney's guidance, the company has facilitated the sale of approximately 10 yachts annually, ranging from 30 to 155 feet, and has built a reputation for providing comprehensive, relationship-driven service to ultra-high-net-worth clients.

At BR Marine Group, Mr. Roney works alongside a team composed primarily of former yacht crew members, including captains, engineers and crew, each bringing more than 15 years of industry experience. Their collective expertise enables the firm to offer tailored solutions and exceptional client care, distinguishing it within the competitive landscape of luxury yachting. In 2024 the firm added a partner, a former captain and long-time friend of Mr. Roney.

Prior to founding BR Marine Group, Mr. Roney was a yacht broker with Camper and Nicholsons International and The International Yacht Company from 2015 to 2022. In this capacity, he collaborated with two globally recognized brokerage firms with significant operations in the Palm Beach area. His responsibilities included guiding clients through the complexities of yacht acquisition and chartering while leveraging his extensive seafaring background to provide practical advice on budgeting, strategic planning and operational efficiency.

From 1998 to 2010 Mr. Roney worked on deck and in the engineering department on a multitude of yachts of different sizes including motor yachts and sailing vessels. In 2011 he received his first official captains' position aboard Pamalama. He held this position from 2011 to 2017 in which time he concluded his tenure as the broker and the captain to sell the vessel. From 2017 to 2022 Mr. Roney worked as the captain on board various motor yachts ranging in size from 112 to 217 feet. Achieving the rank of captain is widely regarded as a pinnacle in the maritime profession; however, after more than two decades on the water, he chose to transition ashore to focus on family priorities and new professional challenges. Mr. Roney's unique perspective, shaped by years at sea, has allowed him to act as a consultant for both owners and crew, fostering effective communication and collaboration without additional fees.

Mr. Roney's career began shortly after graduating from college when he accepted a position with a yacht sales and charter company in Fort Lauderdale. Initially participating in boat shows and supporting various operational tasks, he quickly advanced through roles as deckhand and mate before earning his captain's license. Over 25 years on the water have given him an exceptional understanding of yachts' unique characteristics, enabling him to expertly match clients with their ideal vessels.

Throughout his career, Mr. Roney has been recognized for his expertise in yacht sales, charter and yacht management. He was featured in "From Sea To Shore: How Ex-Crew Are Making Their Mark As Brokers," highlighting his successful transition from maritime operations to brokerage leadership. He is also an active member of the International Yacht Brokers Association, reflecting his ongoing commitment to professional development and industry standards.

Mr. Roney's educational background includes a bachelor's degree in business with a minor in psychology from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, completed in 1998. During his senior year, he participated in coursework at Macquarie University in Australia, broadening his global perspective and adaptability. In addition to his formal degrees, Mr. Roney holds several professional certifications, including a Master 1600/3000 ITC Ocean License, a United States Coast Guard Master certification and credentials from Maritime Professional Training.

Mr. Roney's entry into yachting was serendipitous; inspired by a friend's suggestion to visit Newport, Rhode Island, for summer work, Mr. Roney began selling day charters despite having no prior boating experience. A chance encounter at a boat show led him to a marketing role with a Fort Lauderdale-based company — a pivotal moment that launched his lifelong passion for maritime pursuits.

Beyond his professional achievements, Mr. Roney actively supports the special needs community and Miracle League for Baseball, a cause close to his heart as the father of a son with autism who participates in Miracle League events sponsored by BR Marine Group. The family remains dedicated to advancing initiatives that benefit individuals with special needs.

In his personal life, Mr. Roney is most proud of balancing a demanding career in yachting and maintaining a fulfilling family life, a feat he considers his most significant accomplishment given the industry's inherent challenges of travel and mobility compared to more stationary professions.
