Before joining the World Bank, Ms. Eliatamby was director of food and beverage at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center from 1996 for 10 years. She managed large-scale food and beverage operations across 2.2 million square foot of event space, maintained high service standards, and built strong client and vendor relationships. Her leadership supported the center's reputation as a top venue for presidential inaugurations, international events, weddings, and conferences.
Ms. Eliatamby commenced her formal education at the age of 18, undertaking studies in hotel and restaurant management from Hotelonsult and Cesar Ritz, in Switzerland. At 21, she relocated to the United States to further her career prospects within the hospitality industry. Her academic training provided her with a thorough understanding of hospitality operations and management principles, forming the foundation for her subsequent professional accomplishments. In 1991, Ms. Eliatamby obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in hospitality management from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island.
Further distinguishing her professional journey, Ms. Eliatamby actively participates in industry organizations. She made history as the first Asian woman to serve as the president of the Society for Hospitality and Foodservice Management (SHFM), a milestone that stands as her most notable achievement. Her ascent to this position was preceded by active participation in various committees and meetings, which led to her nomination as a board member. Within two years, Ms. Eliatamby's unwavering commitment and passion for the industry have been consistently recognized, culminating in her selection as a strong presidential candidate, a reflection of her influence and dedication to advancing the field. She received an honorary Doctorate in Foodservice from the North American Association of Food Equipment Manufacturers (NAFEM).
Her active involvement on the advisory council of IFMA The Food Away from Home Association and the OnSite Collaborative Innovation Group, along with her service as a board trustee for Change Please USA, further underscores her deep engagement and leadership. Over the course of two decades, she credits her success to resilience, humility, and an appreciation for every milestone. She recognizes the unique challenges hospitality professionals face and remains deeply passionate about driving positive change and innovation across the sector.
Ms. Eliatamby has been an influential figure and exemplary leader, actively engaging as a board member for the Asian American Leadership Program (AALEAD). AALEAD is an organization that supports low-income and underserved Asian Pacific American youth with educational empowerment, identity development and leadership opportunities through after school programs as well as summer and mentoring programs.
Ms. Eliatamby is committed to giving back to the younger generation entering the hospitality industry by engaging in teaching at a college or university. She emphasizes the importance of mentorship and is dedicated to supporting others as they embark on their careers in the hospitality industry.
