NEW YORK, NY, September 18, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Scott J. Friedman, CFA, FRM, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Widely renowned for his expertise and leadership in the financial sector, Mr. Friedman has built a distinguished career in global finance, risk management and the application of artificial intelligence (AI) informed by PhD-level university research. As a Partner and Co-Founder of Soroban Capital Partners LP, a leading multi-billion-dollar global investment firm established in 2010, he has been pivotal in guiding the firm's direction and reputation on Wall Street. Leaders across Wall Street describe him as humble and quick to credit the talented teammates he works most closely with for his continued success. In his role, Mr. Friedman sits on the Management Committee and the Investment Team at Soroban Capital, builds and monitors comprehensive Risk Analytics for the firm, and leads Global Trading. Mr. Friedman has experience trading across every asset class and all parts of the capital structure globally; including Equity, Fixed Income, Derivatives, Rates, FX, Commodities, Swaps, and Structured Products.
During Mr. Friedman's tenure, Soroban Capital Partners has delivered a strong track record of investment performance, directly benefiting the missions of major universities and charitable foundations through responsible financial management. He also played an integral role as Treasurer of Success Academy Charter Schools, in financially planning one of the largest U.S. K–12 high schools in the Bronx, the poorest congressional district in the United States, supported by a $100 million donation from Michael Bloomberg as a symbol of educational freedom and advancement. Mr. Friedman regards these achievements as his most significant professional milestones, citing their positive impact on the lives of others through financial stewardship.
Prior to helping to establish Soroban Capital Partners, Mr. Friedman served as the Global Head of Trading at TPG-Axon Capital, a global investment firm, from 2006 to 2010. In this capacity, he oversaw trading operations across New York, London, Hong Kong, Japan, and across multiple asset classes, further honing his skills in risk management and market analysis. His professional journey began at Goldman Sachs from 2001 to 2006 in the coveted Principal Strategies group, a highly secretive, ultra-selective, elite group viewed as a breeding ground for top investing talent.
Mr. Friedman specialized in cross-asset arbitrage and invested the firm's own capital, gaining deep, hands-on insight into complex markets, where he developed the product-level expertise that powered his later work.
Throughout his career, Mr. Friedman has demonstrated a commitment to advancing the fields at the intersection of quantitative finance and artificial intelligence. He endowed the Scott J. Friedman Professor of AI and Finance at the University of Florida, supporting the groundbreaking research of Professor Yuehua Tang PhD at the nexus of these AI and Finance disciplines. Additionally, he endowed the first professorship in AI and Machine Learning in Sports Data Science and Analytics, contributing to advancements that played a role in the university's National Men's Basketball Championship win.
To share insights and stay aware of best financial practices, Mr. Friedman is an active member of leading industry organizations including the Global Association of Risk Professionals (GARP) with Financial Risk Management (FRM) designation, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is also recognized as a Centennial Member of the Chairman's Circle in the renowned Economic Club of New York. Equally passionate about civic engagement, he serves on the advisory board for both the New York Stock Exchange and University of Florida Endowment, providing strategic guidance to these influential institutions.
Among his notable accomplishments outside traditional finance roles, Mr. Friedman won the annual Wall Street poker tournament, a charity event with approximately 1,600 participants, donating his entire multimillion-dollar prize to charity benefiting Hillel International. Upon receiving the Championship Poker Bracelet from the renowned celebrity jeweler Lorraine Schwartz, he gifted it to his mother in Florida, who now wears it proudly. He attributes his success in the tournament to his strong grasp of mathematics and statistics developed throughout his Wall Street career.
Another cornerstone of Mr. Friedman's civic involvement is his long-term commitment to Success Academy Charter Schools in New York City. What began as volunteer teaching for a second-grade math course in Harlem near the historic Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, evolved into leadership roles as a Board Member and now the Treasurer of Success Academy for more than a decade. During this period, he helped expand Success Academy from its early stages to a network of more than 60 schools serving predominantly low-income minority students, achieving top statewide academic rankings despite limited funding. Additionally, he founded Success Academy Bushwick, an Elementary School now recognized among the top 1% in New York state for educational performance.
Mr. Friedman's own academic background includes a Bachelor of Science double major in International Economics and Finance from the University of Florida, which provided a strong foundation for his subsequent achievements in finance, economics, and risk management. To augment his technical proficiency and investment qualifications, he is certified as a Chartered Financial Analyst by the CFA Institute and as a Financial Risk Manager by the Global Association of Risk Professionals.
Along with his education, Mr. Friedman credits much of his success to an innate curiosity and passion for continuous learning — a philosophy shaped by family values that emphasized science, education and opportunity. Inspired by personal stories of his grandparents' immigration, his father's entrepreneurial endeavors, and his mother's many awards as a professor, he has sought to foster interdisciplinary knowledge among future generations by supporting initiatives that blend finance, engineering systems thinking, statistical rigor and computer science with an emphasis on principled artificial intelligence.
Happily married and the father of two, Mr. Friedman leads an active life—skiing and playing golf, tennis, and basketball—and is an avid college football fan. He is passionate about exercising and continually seeks to expand his knowledge in mathematics, science and physics.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Friedman remains dedicated to supporting visionary leaders who drive innovation at the intersection of Finance and Artificial Intelligence — empowering individuals whose bold work is reshaping industries for the benefit of future generations. With his unwavering dedication to excellence and passion for helping others, he continues to set a shining example in the financial sector and society at large through all he does.
