ASHEVILLE, NC, September 25, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Allan Robert Schoenberg has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Schoenberg is a leading figure in the realm of chemistry, most notably through his tenure with the leading chemical and material developer DuPont. From 1979 to 2000, he served as a chemist in the X-ray department at DuPont in Brevard, North Carolina, where he made important contributions to the advancement of medical technology. Among his most notable achievements was the development of a patent that improved reaction speed by 20%, which enabled DuPont to reduce silver coating weight by 15%. This innovation resulted in substantial cost savings for the company, estimated at approximately $1 billion in silver fiber production. He holds six patents related to reducing the amount of silver used in film — a testament to his impact on both industrial efficiency and resource conservation.

Prior to his work in Brevard, Dr. Schoenberg was a chemist in the graphic arts department at DuPont in Fort Lee, New Jersey, from 1974 to 1979. In this role, he contributed to research and development efforts that supported advancements in imaging and printing technologies. His expertise is further demonstrated by his membership in the American Chemical Society, reflecting his commitment to professional engagement and ongoing learning within the chemistry realm.

A pivotal milestone in Dr. Schoenberg's career was his postdoctoral research with Dr. Richard Heck, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2010 for the discovery of the Heck Reaction. Their collaboration resulted in several influential published papers and contributed to a breakthrough widely adopted by pharmaceutical manufacturers. The Heck Reaction enabled a reduction in the number of steps required to synthesize artificial prostaglandin — from a 12-step process with a 1% yield to a 10-step process with a 10% yield — demonstrating its transformative impact on drug synthesis and manufacturing efficiency. He regards this research as his most significant professional achievement, particularly after learning of its widespread application during Dr. Heck's reception at the University of Delaware.

Reflecting on his decades of service, Dr. Schoenberg is especially grateful that his chemical studies contributed to valuable innovations and application — particularly in advancing medical X-ray technology — rather than for combat purposes.

Dr. Schoenberg's academic foundation includes a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Delaware, where he benefited from collaborations with leading professionals such as engineers and physicists — relationships he credits as pivotal to his success. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry, graduating with honors from Monmouth College (now Monmouth University).

Born in The Bronx, NY in 1943, Dr. Schoenberg married Elen Sue London, a high school teacher who passed away in 2009 after a long battle with multiple sclerosis. They had two children, Steven and Brett and now have five grandchildren. In 2010 he met the second love of his life, Dr. Jung Noh, a physician specializing in neurorehabilitation and they have been living together ever since. He cherishes spending quality time with his family and as hobbies he enjoys cooking, trout fishing, dancing and playing poker.
