Dr. Morency is a trusted intellectual property (IP) and transactional life sciences strategist at Adler Pollock & Sheehan P.C. (AP&S), where he has served since 2017. He advises clients on patent prosecution, securing and commercializing IP, with a focus on early-stage companies and non-profit research hospitals and universities. His IP and transactional expertise lets him selectively represent organizations aligned with his commitment to advancing health-care innovation, especially in rare children disorders and areas with unmet needs.

Career highlights include guiding a specialty pharmaceutical company through a risky license he redesigned, so economics rose only if patents did. He also negotiated the company's control of U.S. prosecution and obtained an issued U.S. patent; identified further patentable manufacturing innovations; and advanced a U.S./international strategy supported by a favorable PCT written opinion. In parallel, he help build a trademark portfolio and branding strategy. The company's later acquisition by a multinational biopharma validated the effort, and resulted in the commercialization of a safer, more user-friendly drug formulation for a rare form of infant epilepsy. Beyond his legal practice, he has co-invented two life-science technologies and co-founded two companies to commercialize them.

Before AP&S, he was partner and Boston office chair of IP at Foley & Lardner LLP (2005–2016); a shareholder/partner at Greenberg Traurig (2003–2004); a member/partner at Mintz Levin (1998–2003); and an associate at Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault (from 1995), focusing on patent prosecution and transactions for technology clients. His earliest role was at Macera & Jarzyna LLP in Ottawa (1994–1995).

His academic background includes a B.Sc. (Life Sciences, honors) from Queen's University (1984), a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences (neurosciences) from McMaster University (1992), and a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Ottawa (1994). He is a registered patent attorney and fluent in English and French.

Professionally active, he has mentored entrepreneurs at North Shore InnoVentures (Beverly, MA) since 2010 and has guest-lectured on IP in biotechnology at Brown University since 2016.

His thought leadership includes co-authoring "Driving Revenue and Deal Flow Through an Intelligent IP Strategy: Strategies for Smaller and Early-Stage Life Science Companies" (The Licensing Journal, 2021) and a 2025 AP&S case study on commercializing a novel infantile-spasms formulation. He has also written numerous short legal pieces, contributed to scientific journals, and is a co-inventor on several patents.

During his post-secondary education, he earned more than 20 scholarships, fellowships, and awards, ranking first in Canada for a prestigious graduate scholarship, receiving one of only two Ciba-Geigy scholarships from the Medical Research Council of Canada, as well as the LES scholarship in law school.
