As the owner and senior architecture consultant at Barrett Architecture in North Carolina since 2008, he has led the firm in developing unique facilities that have a significant impact on daily life, often working on projects unfamiliar to most but essential to communities and industries. Mr. Barrett's expertise in high-technology facilities and cleanrooms has set him apart as an authority in these specialized areas.

In addition to managing his firm, Mr. Barrett spent 2023 to 2025 as a global facilities civil, structural and architectural system design lead at Wolfspeed Inc., contributing his knowledge to projects in Texas and the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina. In this capacity, he was instrumental in advancing the design parameters of complex systems for cutting-edge new construction, additions, renovation and maintenance projects for Wolfspeed facilities. Between 2021 and 2023, Mr. Barrett also held the position of senior project architect at Elkus Manfredi Architects in Boston. Earlier, from 2019 to 2021, he was a senior project architect at TRIA Architects Inc., also in Boston, where he continued to refine his skills in laboratory and high-technology facility design.

His tenure as senior architect at Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype, Inc. in the Greater Boston Area from 2018 to 2019 further expanded his portfolio of complex institutional projects. From 2017 to 2018, Mr. Barrett contributed as a senior architect at Lab / Life. Science. Architecture, Inc., focusing on scientific and technology environments.

As an architecture platform lead at M+W Group (now Exyte Group) in Boston from 2012 to 2017, Mr. Barrett directed architectural strategies for the life sciences sector, ensuring the integration of innovative solutions into each project. He also served as a consultant architect for Barrett Architecture from 2010 to 2012 and was a senior project architect at Jacobs between 2008 and 2010.

Among other notable roles, Mr. Barrett launched Barrett Architecture for the first time in 1992, managing the business for five years, serving commercial, retail, institutional and residential clients. His foundational role began in 1987 as a designer, project manager and project architect at Smith Lineberry Architecture in Cary, NC where he gained valuable experience managing diverse architectural assignments.

Mr. Barrett's academic background included earning a Bachelor of Environmental Design in Architecture and a Master of Architecture from the college of design at North Carolina State University. The rigorous training he received there provided a strong foundation for his technical expertise and creative approach. Mr. Barrett's credentials also include registration as an architect with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards as well as in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and with the North Carolina Board of Architecture. He also received certification as a hazard analysis critical control point professional and holds both green globe professional and guiding principles compliance professional certifications through Green Building Initiative Inc.
Active in his professional community, Mr. Barrett is a member of the American Institute of Architects. Civically engaged, he is a member of the Zebulon Downtown Study Committee, contributing his expertise toward community development initiatives in Zebulon, North Carolina.
