At Montrose Environmental Solutions, Mr. Teeling leads vital air emissions and sustainability initiatives, serves as a lead auditor for the Methane Intensity and Quality (MIQ) program certifying natural gas and acts as an expert witness in legal matters. He is known for defining the chemistry and geology to determine fault or potential sourcing in cases involving negligence, regulatory compliance or litigation. His ability to leverage advanced technology and scientific knowledge to address environmental challenges has been a hallmark of his career.

In addition to his role at Montrose Environmental Solutions, Mr. Teeling established MJT Consulting Geologist PLLC — where he has lent his expertise to help clients find solutions to environmental pollution issues — in 2018. He provided expert geological services across a range of projects, drawing on his extensive background in both environmental consulting and the oil and gas energy sector.

From 2015 to 2019, Mr. Teeling served as a senior consulting geologist at Woodard & Curran, where he contributed to high-level project management and technical oversight within the firm's environmental division. His tenure as the principal geologist at Stantec from 2002 to 2019, during which he managed large-scale projects involving both onshore and offshore exploration and production, further solidified his reputation as a leader in geological sciences.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Teeling was a staff senior geologist at Groundwater Technology from 1991 to 2002. During this period, he played a pivotal role in environmental remediation efforts, including compliance with United States Environmental Protection Agency mandates for underground storage tank removal throughout the 1990s. From 1986 to 1991, he was a senior geologist at Scipar, Inc., where he engaged in classified geological research for the military and the United States Department of Defense. He also worked with NASA for two years, contributing to research initiatives that expanded his technical acumen.

Before venturing onto his vocational path, Mr. Teeling earned a Master of Science in planetary geology from Kansas State University in 1986 and a Bachelor of Arts in geology from The State University of New York at Buffalo in 1984. While pursuing these degrees, he maintained a strong focus on science and mathematics and developed an interest in computer sciences, balancing coursework in programming alongside his primary studies. Although he did not complete a degree in computer science due to time constraints, this interdisciplinary approach has informed his innovative problem-solving methods throughout his career.

To augment his knowledge and technical proficiency, Mr. Teeling is certified as a professional geologist through the Office of the Professions at the New York State Education Department. Committed to advancing the standards within his field and fostering collaboration among peers, he is an active member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists, the Buffalo Association of Professional Geologists and the Central New York Association of Professional Geologists.

Throughout his career, Mr. Teeling has been guided by mentors who emphasized the importance of stepping outside one's comfort zone — a philosophy he now imparts to younger staff members by encouraging them to embrace challenges for both professional growth and personal development. Happily married and a proud father of two daughters, Mr. Teeling is civically engaged through participation in local parishes and musical pursuits. An accomplished musician, he plays the guitar across multiple genres from classical to jazz and is involved in efforts to form a band while collecting guitars as a hobby. Additionally, he enjoys raising and showing Rhodesian Ridgeback dogs.
