LAWRENCE, KS, October 10, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Scott Lyman Spacek, DNP, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Mr. Spacek has established a distinguished career in nursing, with a focus on labor and delivery and midwifery in Northeastern Kansas and the surrounding region. Since 2021, he has served as a labor and delivery nurse at North Kansas City Hospital, where he is also associated with NKC Health. In this capacity, he has provided expert care to mothers and newborns, drawing on his extensive experience to support families during one of the most significant moments of their lives. His work is marked by a deep commitment to patient advocacy, education, and compassionate support.

Prior to his current role, Mr. Spacek was a registered nurse at Stormont Vail Health from 2016 to 2021. During this period, he honed his clinical skills in various settings, gaining valuable experience that would later inform his specialized practice in obstetrics. His early career included service as a registered nurse in inpatient, outpatient, and acute psychiatric environments, where he developed a strong foundation in patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Throughout his professional journey, Mr. Spacek has been an active member of several industry organizations, including the American College of Nurse Midwives and the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses. He is also affiliated with the Order of the Arrow and is a former member of the American Bonner Scholars program. These memberships reflect his dedication to ongoing professional development and engagement with broader health care interests and the community at large.

Mr. Spacek's educational background has been instrumental in shaping his approach to nursing and midwifery. He earned a Doctor of Nursing Practice in nursing and midwifery from the University of Kansas Medical Center in 2025. This advanced degree equipped him with the clinical expertise and leadership skills necessary for high-level practice and advocacy within maternal health care. He previously completed a bachelor's degree in nursing from Washburn University in 2016, following a Bachelor of Applied Science in human services from Washburn University in 2007.

His initial academic pursuits were rooted in human services—a field closely related to social work—reflecting his longstanding passion for helping others. However, after facing limited job opportunities following the 2008 housing market crash, Mr. Spacek redirected his focus toward nursing. Overcoming personal challenges related to neurodivergence and learning differences, he excelled academically through determination and support from mentors such as Dr. Laura Rivera, Professor Unruh, and Dr. Amy White at Washburn University. This guidance was pivotal as he discovered his calling in women's health during an obstetrics rotation at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Spacek has held certification as a registered nurse from the Kansas Nursing Board since 2016. His journey into midwifery was marked by perseverance through self-doubt and imposter syndrome, challenges he overcame with encouragement from friends and colleagues who recognized his potential.

In addition to his clinical roles, Mr. Spacek has contributed to the field through scholarly projects and publications. Notably, he completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice project focused on improving access to prenatal care for mothers lacking such resources. He is also featured in "Born for This" and the "Midwife Credentialing Guide," both of which serve as valuable resources and advocacy platforms for practitioners entering or advancing within the profession.

His commitment to service extends beyond health care settings into civic engagement and volunteerism. Mr. Spacek has participated in church choir activities at Topeka's First United Methodist church, volunteered reading books to children, supported rescue shelters, and engaged in various forms of community outreach aimed at supporting youth development.

Mr. Spacek's career is distinguished not only by technical expertise but also by mentorship and advocacy for neurodivergent individuals within health care. He takes pride in having mentored students—both men and women—who initially doubted their abilities but found confidence under his guidance. Many have expressed gratitude for the clarity they gained after working alongside him, underscoring his impact as an educator and role model.

Among his accolades is recognition as an Eagle Scout by the Boy Scouts of America, a testament to his leadership abilities and dedication to service from an early age. He attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of family members—including his mother, who was an early advocate for neurodivergent children; his father, remembered for kindness and selflessness; his brother, with whom he has collaborated musically; and Chris, whose support during their marriage was invaluable despite their eventual separation. Mr. Spacek values both his biological relatives and "found family," cherishing close friendships formed through shared interests such as Dungeons & Dragons.

Outside of work, Mr. Spacek enjoys spending time with his daughter and activities such as singing, culinary experiences, occasional craft beer tastings, and participating in tabletop gaming sessions with friends. As he looks ahead, he aspires to further develop his expertise as a certified nurse-midwife while contributing to evidence-based policy advocacy related to prenatal care and medication safety for mothers and infants. He envisions building legitimacy for midwifery by helping establish group practices that operate under holistic models of care—similar to those found at leading regional centers—and ultimately founding a birthing center dedicated to low-intervention options accessible to all women.
