CHATSWORTH, CA, October 15, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- David Andrew Goodman has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Spanning more than three decades and marked by versatility, technical expertise and creative leadership, Mr. Goodman has led a remarkable career in the entertainment industry. His professional journey began in the early 1990s when he entered the field of special effects, contributing to major feature films such as "Titanic," "The Fifth Element," "Dante's Peak" and "Hollow Man." His initial foray into film was serendipitous — after teaching airbrushing to a model maker, he was introduced to the production team for "Titanic" and was hired on the spot by James Cameron after presenting his work. This pivotal moment became a foundational milestone in his career, setting the stage for subsequent achievements in special effects with renowned companies including Digital Domain, Sony Imageworks and Thunderstone from 1991 to 1997.
During this period, Mr. Goodman also worked as a stylist, designer and set designer for various production companies, expanding his skill set through roles in retail art supply sales and as a tattoo artist and shop owner in both Georgia and Los Angeles. His experience in airbrushing and teaching further enriched his artistic background, ultimately leading to opportunities in film.
As the industry shifted toward digital design around end of the 20th century, Mr. Goodman adapted by enrolling in coursework at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Extension from 1998 to 2000. Thanks to his focus on film production and content creation, his education facilitated his transition into gaffing and lighting — a field where he would find his greatest professional fulfillment. He went on to launch Goodman Grip & Light in Hollywood in 2014, serving as the lighting director, gaffer, key grip and dolly grip. Through his business, he has led lighting teams for various feature films, commercials, corporate videos and interview setups. He regards his lighting work as his most significant accomplishment, reflecting both his technical mastery and collaborative leadership.
Mr. Goodman's freelance career as a gaffer began in 2005 and continues today. He has held key positions on numerous projects, including serving as the department lead for Lany Entertainment's Emmy Award-winning series "The Bay" from 2013 to 2022; gaffer and key grip for Reingold Inc. and the short film "Ready" in 2017; department lead for alphaXproduction from 2008 to 2017; department head for Lany Films in 2014; and digital image technician for AutoFuss San Francisco and Los Angeles in 2013.
Expanding his expertise to include graphic design, Mr. Goodman worked in animated motion graphics and editing through independent contracts in Burbank during 2013. He also served as an assistant director, stylist and special effects artist for BrokeTV, where he assisted with photographic and video shoots and provided location lighting solutions. As a menu and point-of-sale graphic designer from 2011 to 2013, he worked in digital and print advertising for the popular restaurant and bar The Tipsy Goat. Prior to that, he gained valuable leadership experience as the studio manager, stylist, designer and lead grip at NoHo Studios from 2007 to 2009.
Since 2021, Mr. Goodman has also served as a certified prop gun wrangler at Notacopla.com and holds an entertainment firearms permit from the California Department of Justice. Additionally, he earned Avid Film Composer certification from Montana Edit in 1994.
Mr. Goodman's academic background includes coursework in fine art and illustration at Savannah College of Art and Design. The skills developed during this time informed his early work as a tattoo artist — he operated shops while attending school in Georgia and later opened a store in Los Angeles — and provided a foundation for his later achievements in airbrushing, painting and special effects.
Civic engagement has been an important aspect of Mr. Goodman's life. He produced the annual Beach Ride motorcycle charity event for the Exceptional Children's Foundation in Ventura, handling staging, live performances and overall production management. Furthermore, he has supported Hathaway Children Services — which aids at-risk young people and their families with services such as housing and independent living skills — by donating original paintings and photography for silent auctions benefiting the organization.
In addition to his technical roles behind the camera, Mr. Goodman has contributed editorially as the executive editor of two international tattoo magazines published by Paisano Publications — a position that allowed him to merge his passion for tattooing with content creation while learning magazine management firsthand. More recently, he served as the lighting director for the feature film "Skillhouse" in 2025, highlighting his continued relevance in contemporary filmmaking. His accomplishments saw him featured in an interview with Canvas Rebel Magazine, where he discussed his storied creative journey and provided advice to others seeking success in entertainment.
Mr. Goodman attributes much of his success to the unwavering support of his family — particularly his parents — and the many talented crews with whom he collaborates. He believes that strong relationships are essential to achieving excellence within the entertainment industry. Outside of work, he enjoys creating and researching stories, spending time with his wife, dog and two cats, riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle and exploring new restaurants.
Determined to further his impact in the coming years, Mr. Goodman remains committed to content creation across multiple formats — from short films to feature-length productions — and continues to pursue new opportunities within lighting, acting and prop gun specialization while maintaining an active presence throughout the entertainment sector.
