From 2011 to 2013, he served as the Operations Officer and Security Manager for Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron Nine on Whidbey Island, Washington, where he managed complex security operations and led personnel in high-stakes environments.
His earlier assignments serving with the United States Navy as Communications Officer aboard the USS ANZIO (CG 68) from 2005 to 2007 and as a faculty member at the US Naval Academy from 2007 -2010. Throughout his military career, Lt. Miller demonstrated exemplary leadership and technical proficiency. Among his most significant achievements is earning his submarine qualification while enlisted, a milestone that stands out as a point of personal pride within his distinguished service record.
Numerous awards and recognitions complement Lt. Miller's professional accomplishments. He was honored with the Civilian of the Quarter award by the Education and Training Quota Management Command in 2022. His military decorations include the Enlisted Submarine Service Warfare Insignia, Surface Warfare Officer Insignia, the Integrated Undersea Surveillance Warfare Insignia, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals.
In addition to his military and academic roles, Lt. Miller is a published author with four works to his credit, an accomplishment that underscores his dedication to scholarship and communication.
His commitment extends beyond professional obligations into civic engagement. From 2012 to 2014, he volunteered with Habitat for Humanity International as a construction volunteer, contributing time and effort toward building homes for those in need. From 2020 to the present, he has volunteered with Rescue Thrift in Portsmouth, Virginia. Their mission is to serve the marginalized communities of Hampton Roads.
Lt. Miller's educational background includes a Master of Arts in technical communication from Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama, which he earned in 2004, and a Bachelor of Arts in English (Summa Cum Laude) from the same institution, which he completed in 2003. These academic achievements have provided a strong foundation for his work in both military and civilian sectors.
He has further enhanced his credentials through specialized certifications, including the senior professional in human resources certificate from the Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF), awarded in 2021, and a diploma in joint professional military education - phase one from the United States Naval War College, received in 2010.
Lt. Miller maintains active involvement with several industry-related organizations, such as a lifetime membership with the Auburn University Alumni Association since 2004, the Golden Key International Honour Society, the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps, Phi Kappa Phi, and the Military Officers Association of America.
