SARASOTA, FL, October 23, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Elizabeth Dammers has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Dr. Dammers has established herself as a dedicated and compassionate veterinarian, recognized for her expertise in shelter medicine, behavioral cases, dentistry and public education. Her professional journey is marked by a commitment to animal welfare and a drive to continually expand her knowledge and skills.
In her current role as a veterinarian at the Humane Society of Sarasota County, which she began in 2025, Dr. Dammers works three to four days each week. She conducts daily rounds with the medical director to assess every animal in the facility, performing thorough physical examinations, updating vaccines and identifying animals requiring further evaluation. Her responsibilities include treating a wide range of medical cases and performing surgeries such as spays, neuters, dentals and more complex procedures like eye enucleation. For highly specialized or complex surgeries beyond her scope, she refers cases to local surgeons. Dr. Dammers also collaborates with the human resources team and public relations staff to coordinate animal donations and consults on housing decisions to ensure animals are appropriately placed within the facility.
Additionally, Dr. Dammers serves as a private practice veterinarian at West Coast Veterinary Center, a position she has held since 2023. She was introduced to this practice when seeking therapy for her older golden retriever and was drawn to its holistic approach under Dr. Brown, who specializes in integrative medicine including acupuncture, physical therapy and rehabilitation for dogs and cats. This experience deepened her appreciation for combining Western and Eastern treatment modalities.
Throughout her career, Dr. Dammers has earned recognition for her compassionate approach to veterinary care. Early in her career, she obtained Fear Free certification, which underscores her commitment to reducing fear and stress in animals during veterinary visits. Her philosophy emphasizes respecting each animal's bodily autonomy and working within their comfort levels, resulting in numerous referrals from other doctors for behavioral cases.
Dr. Dammers is an active member of several professional organizations, including Fear Free, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Feline Practitioners, the Association for Canine Practitioners and the Association of Shelter Veterinarians. These affiliations reflect her dedication to staying current with advancements in veterinary medicine and contributing to the broader professional community.
Her academic background includes earning a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Florida in Gainesville in 2017 and a bachelor's degree in animal biology from the University of Florida in 2012. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in shelter medicine from the University of Florida as well as a master's degree in animal behavior and welfare from Unity Environmental University in Maine. Dr. Dammers holds an additional certification in canine physical therapy from the University of Tennessee.
Her achievements have been recognized with honors such as Veterinarian of the Year by Tampa Style Magazine in 2025. Dr. Dammers credits her success to being open to new opportunities and maintaining a strong work ethic. Her path into veterinary medicine was shaped by an early interest in equine and large animal care; however, she was inspired by a friend working at the Humane Society who introduced her to herd health management—treating entire populations through preventive care and medication. This experience ignited her passion for shelter medicine and working with underserved animal populations.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Dammers enjoys riding her horse, camping, hiking and reading. Looking ahead, she aims to complete both master's degrees to further enhance patient care and aspires to become a medical director at a shelter to further promote the welfare of underserved animal populations.
