MANHATTAN, KS, October 24, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Richard Gilliam III, MBA, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Gilliam currently serves as Tax Accounting Manager at the Kansas State University Foundation, where he manages all federal and state tax filing requirements and provides individual tax return services for the organization. In this capacity, he maintains financial statements, oversees compliance duties and conducts four 3B reconciliations. He is also responsible for performing basic financial statement reconciliations with several asset management companies and organizing numerous committee meetings. During his tenure, Mr. Gilliam demonstrated significant leadership and innovation during the COVID-19 pandemic by identifying outdated practices in the foundation's tax return preparation and donor communication processes. He successfully advocated for a transition to a more efficient electronic system, presenting its benefits to the leadership committee. His initiative resulted in substantial improvements in operational efficiency and time savings, marking a notable achievement in his professional career.
In addition to his role at the foundation, Mr. Gilliam is also the owner and tax consultant of MaxTax Services, a business he established in 2009. Through MaxTax Services, he offers expert tax consulting services to a diverse clientele, leveraging his extensive knowledge of taxes and accounting. His expertise has been widely recognized, and he has built a reputation for delivering reliable guidance and support to individuals seeking assistance with their tax matters.
Before his current position, Mr. Gilliam worked as a joint interest billing accountant at Burgher Haggard from 2013 to 2014. In this role, he was responsible for managing joint interest billings and supporting the company's accounting operations.
Before transitioning into the field of accounting and taxation, Mr. Gilliam enjoyed a successful career as a professional basketball player from 2006 to 2013. He played internationally in South America and Europe, as well as in the United States in the National Basketball Association's minor leagues, then known as the D-League, and was drafted by a American Basketball Association (ABA) team. Although his athletic career was distinguished, Mr. Gilliam has emphasized that basketball was an activity rather than his identity, and he has successfully applied many principles learned from sports, such as discipline, preparation and perseverance, to his subsequent professional endeavors.
Mr. Gilliam's academic background includes earning a Master of Business Administration from Kansas State University in Manhattan in 2015. He previously completed a Bachelor of Science in accounting and business management at Lander University in Greenwood in 2006. The rigorous training and preparation required for both academics and athletics have shaped his approach to professional growth; he credits his success to his commitment to preparation, arriving early and being well-informed before meetings, habits developed during years of athletic practice.
His entry into the field of taxation was inspired by frequent requests from family members and friends for tax advice while he was playing basketball overseas during tax season. Encouraged by a close friend to formalize this assistance into a business venture, Mr. Gilliam founded MaxTax Services, a decision that quickly proved successful.
Beyond his professional responsibilities, Mr. Gilliam is civically engaged through his ongoing work with the Kansas State University Foundation, to which he has been affiliated since 2015.
Native of Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Gilliam values time spent with his children, Shaw, Wes, and Des. He enjoys coaching, participating in sports and exercising. His spouse, Ebony Gilliam, serves as Associate Head Coach for the women's basketball team at Kansas State University. Looking ahead, Mr. Gilliam aspires to pursue a Chief Financial Officer position within an organization, a challenge for which he feels well-prepared, and remains dedicated to supporting his family's interests, particularly his children's involvement in sports.
Mr. Gilliam's journey reflects expertise in taxes and accounting, adaptability across diverse fields and an unwavering commitment to excellence both professionally and personally.
