WASHINGTON, D.C., October 28, 2025 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Maurice W. Dorsey, PhD, has been selected for inclusion in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Dr. Dorsey has distinguished himself as a writer and published author, building on a career that spans more than four decades in public service and education. Since 2013, he has been associated with Maurice W. Dorsey Books, where he has authored five works, including "Businessman First, a biography" "From Whence We Come, a novel based on a true story" "Of Time and Spirit, a Tribute to My Father" "Zelma's Aphorisms" and "So Many Angels". His writing career was inspired by his early friendship with Henry G. Parks, Jr., the founder of the Baltimore based, Park Sausage Company, Inc. whose encouragement led Dr. Dorsey to pursue authorship after his retirement.

Prior to his literary pursuits, Dr. Dorsey retired in 2012 from the United States Department of Agriculture. In his role as the national program leader for public policy, he became recognized as an expert in education policy. His tenure at the department was marked by a commitment to advancing public policy initiatives and fostering community engagement. During his 42 year career, Dr. Dorsey is a life member of seven national organizations: Alpha Phi Alpha, Phi Delta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, the NAACP, the National Council of Negro Women, the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, and the University of Maryland Alumni Association.

From 1973-76, Dr. Dorsey was employed by Baltimore City Public Schools before transitioning to the University of the District of Columbia until 2000. He held part-time appointments at Harford Community College and Morgan State University. Each position allowed him to influence students and colleagues while furthering his expertise in educational development.

Dr. Dorsey's academic journey began at Bel Air Senior High School, where he earned an academic diploma in 1965. He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in family and consumer sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park. He earned a Masters of Arts and Humanities at the Johns Hopkins University,1975, and a Masters of Education at Loyola University of Maryland, 1976. Dr. Dorsey returned to the University of Maryland, College Park earning a Doctor of Philosophy,1983 further solidifying his credentials as an authority in education policy. He is currently completing a masters of Fine Arts at Southern New Hampshire University, 2026.

Throughout his life, Dr. Dorsey has attributed much of his success to the strong foundation provided by his parents, Mr. And Mrs. James R. Dorsey, Sr. who instilled values of resilience, self-reliance and discipline despite facing significant societal challenges. Their guidance helped him navigate discrimination related to race and sexual identity while maintaining focus on personal growth and achievement. In recognition of his professional accomplishments and enduring impact on the academic community, Dr. Dorsey received the Alumni Excellence Legacy Award from the University of Maryland in 2024.

Beyond his professional achievements, Dr. Dorsey has demonstrated a deep commitment to civic engagement and philanthropy. In 2022, he founded the Maurice W. Dorsey, PhD, and Robert James Battjes, DSW Endowed Scholarship through the University of Maryland Foundation. He also serves on the University of Maryland, Student Affairs Alumni Group for Engagement (SAAGE) and recently established a second scholarship at Southern New Hampshire University in honor of his thesis mentor, David Moloney.

Born in Baltimore, Dr. Dorsey enjoys reading, aerobics, jigsaw puzzles and dancing during his leisure time. He is dedicated to expanding his contributions to scholarships as part of building a lasting legacy. His future plans include writing additional books, submitting essays for publication in magazines, and establishing new scholarships or memorials honoring individuals influential in his personal and professional development.
