Mr. Asaye, a science instructor with several years of experience in education, has established a distinguished career marked by dedication to student achievement and a commitment to fostering academic excellence. Since 2025, he has served as an environmental science and biology instructor at a Mastery charter high school in Philadelphia, where he teaches ninth grade. In this role, he draws upon his expertise in biology, environmental science, chemistry, physics, algebra, calculus and precalculus. His fluency in Spanish further enhances his ability to connect with a diverse student body and deliver instruction across multiple disciplines.

Prior to joining Mastery Schools, Mr. Asaye was a science instructor at Ascend Schools from 2023 to 2025. He also served as a grade team student services lead there during the same period, demonstrating his leadership capabilities and commitment to supporting both students and colleagues.

From 2016 until 2022, Mr. Asaye honed his expertise as a STEM teacher at Success Academy Charter Schools. During his tenure, he achieved one of his most notable professional milestones: guiding his eighth-grade students to an average pass rate of 99.5% on the New York State Living Environment Regents Exam — a test typically taken by ninth and 10th graders as a graduation requirement.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Asaye spent approximately three years at Great Oaks Charter School. There, he taught STEM subjects to students in grades five through 11, further developing his pedagogical approach and deepening his understanding of effective teaching strategies for diverse learners.

Providing Mr. Asaye with a strong foundation for his teaching endeavors was his academic background, which began with a Bachelor of Science in environmental science with an emphasis in biology and a minor in Spanish from Northern Arizona University, graduating as an honor student in 2012. He subsequently earned a Master of Arts in education for secondary science from the Relay Graduate School of Education, followed by a master's degree in environmental science with an emphasis in health and management from the University of New Haven. He is also an active member of the National Education Association, underscoring his ongoing engagement with the broader educational community.

Reflecting on his career, Mr. Asaye attributes his success to his perseverance, pursuit of excellence and unwavering commitment to improvement — values instilled in him during his upbringing. Surrounded by relatives who served as professors and teachers, he developed an early appreciation for the transformative power of knowledge and education.

Beyond the classroom, Mr. Asaye is deeply involved in civic activities and community service. He serves as a board member for Aspires West Pasadena and was recognized as Role Model of the Year by the organization in 2023. He supports Friends Indeed and Goodwill, volunteers at food pantries and actively participates in church and community events.

Looking ahead, Mr. Asaye aspires to earn a doctorate — potentially focusing on environmental science, environmental policy or education — and is determined to make significant academic and environmental contributions. Additionally, he hopes to establish a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing access to clean water and reliable electricity for families in Ethiopia.
